Milk ramen does sound weird, but if you like the rich and savory food from Hokkaido, you probably should try this Hokkaido ramen style.
Tom invited me over to his local Hokkaido ramen place near Yotsua Sanchome station in the middle of Tokyo, called Menya Tomikichi (麺屋 とみ吉). They have an extensive menu which is centered around their Hokkaido style miso ramen, but they basically have everything from shoyu ramen, to shio ramen, curry ramen and spicy bowls. But the reason we came here is the milk ramen bowl.
My best guess is that this bowl is based on Hokkaido miso ramen as well and then gets the milk and tons of garlic added, as well as butter and a whole bunch of other toppings like chashu, corn and menma.
The bowl looks very white and creamy, very visibly contains milk. The surprising part although is not the creamy taste from the milk, which actually works just fine. The amount if garlic is the truly astonishing part of this bowl. Very rich, very garlicky, a hearty bowl of goodness that perfectly fits to a cold night in Hokkaido, or in Tokyo if you feel so inclined.
Thanks again to Tom who brought me to this place!
