Furano, located in the center of Hokkaido, is renowned for its extensive lavender fields. One of the best places to experience this is Farm Tomita, the largest lavender farm in the area. Here, you can immerse yourself in the vibrant purple fields and the soothing aroma of lavender if you visited July and August. Farm Tomita also produces a variety of lavender-based products like tea, soap, and oil—perfect for bringing a piece of this paradise back home with you.
Hinode Park is eight kms away from Farm Tomita. You can view of Tokachidake Geopark which is known for its stunning volcanic landscapes and rich geological features. The Geopark is centered around Mount Tokachi, an active stratovolcano, and offers visitors a chance to explore various volcanic formations, hot springs, and scenic trails. It’s a great destination for nature enthusiasts and geology lovers alike!
The next day was raining and I visited Blue Pond, Biei. This pond’s blue color comes from a unique natural phenomenon. The water contains a high concentration of aluminum from the nearby Shirahige Falls. When this aluminum-rich water mixes with the Biei river water and settles in the pond, it reflects and scatters sunlight, creating a vivid blue hue.
