Sendai to Toyako-onsen by Shinkansen, Hokuto (Rail Scenery) (4K 60fps)

Setting off just after midday, my legs were keen for sitting down in air conditioned comfort for several hours after the long walks in high humidity of the last few days. Just 5 hours to travel several hundred kilometres is impressive enough, even more so considering the latter half of the time spent was on the final leg.

First the Tohoku/Hokkaido Shinkansen gets us from Honshu to Hokkaido inside the Seikan Tunnel, then a transfer just outside of Hakodate swaps me to the Hokuto express service to skirt around the edge of Uchiura Bay. There I have to leave the comfort of rail and have my first Japanese bus experience to cross over the hills from Toyako to the lakeside onsen town – yes, you still have to take a ticket and pay by cash.

Hopefully the map component fills in the context between the window videos – with so much of the journey being through tunnels, I was not sure how I was going to stitch this together coherently otherwise.
