Trace du Hourra Review, Parc Asterix Mack Bobsled Coaster | Last Steel Bobsled Ever Built
Trace du Hourra is a Mack bobsled roller coaster at Parc Asterix. Rather than having the usual snow theme, this ride is themed around cavemen inventing the wheel. The layout features a handful of twists and turns, allowing the vehicles to sway up the trough. This video reviews the ride and looks at why this was the last steel bobsled built.

I love the reviews even though I’ll never experience 90% of these coasters…..
The Max height of this coaster is 102 feet
2:27 I already know bobsleigh coasters are rail-less and they require midcourse brake runs because just like in RCT they can fly off the track
The bobsled coaster really seems like a dying breed. I miss the intamin ones and prefer them to the mack design. Hopefully these ones can at least stay for a while longer
The portopialand bobsled actually was not scrapped. It is currently listed for sale. I can find the listing if anyonr wants
I've ridden two of the four "styles" that exist or have existed. I have ridden the Intamin version at Six Flags Over Texas several times. I rode the Mack version at Kings Dominion once. I don't remember anything specific about it. I have not ridden the Knoebel's version. I have visited Knoebel's only once and that was before the Flying Turns was built. (Rode Whirl Wind a fews times though.) I have never ridden an original Norman Bartlett version. I believe those were all gone before I was born. The closest one can get to a Bartlett built coaster is to ride Knoebel's Flying Turns. Knoebel's built their own wooden version in house (as stated in the video) because they wanted to and because they can. (It really puzzles me how Conneaut's Tumble Bug did get relocated to Knoebel's… but that's another story and another soapbox.)
This is (and will be) my favorite coaster model. The only thing I don't like is the segmented train. The front train bent in a unpleasent way, if your knees are braced against the restraints. because of the the joint inbetween the cars ( left and right at 6:28). If the front part bent upwards against the restraint during a curve, it kinda hurts. … But apart of that, those coaster types are are great medel 😀
The only bobsled coaster that I've got to ride was the former Disaster Transport, the AC was nice and the ride was cool, I guess.
That's it, only Mack bobsleds now, the last surviving Intamin one in Texas has closed. I am one of the "weird" people that preferred the Intamin ones because they always felt more out of control to me with sliding up the trough, and I didn't find them as rattly. Oh well.
The only bobsled coasters I've done are flying turns even though it isn't steel (which I do like) and reptilian. Reptilian ranks low for me because it just didn't do anything for me
Quite Sad That The Intamin Bobsled Is Now Extinct. But I Do Hope Intamin Might Revive The Model Someday
hopefully parc asterix can keep this open for long enough for me to check one of these bobsleds out before they're all gone 🙁
In case of strict assign seating policy, you’ll need to ride this Mack bobsled coaster multiple times as you can using their Filotomatix all-day option in order to get the seat you want without any row requests whatsoever.
