Sorry to hear about your grandfather. He definitely would've been very proud that you went to visit the statue in his honour. But I think if I was picking a time to go to Hokkaido, I'd do it when it's a bit warmer. 😄

Yes, things don't work out as planned, but you made it to sapporo. Sapporo looks awesome when there is more snow around. Have you been to Hill of Buddha or the historical village of Hokkaido. The best place in Susukino to watch the trams go by is at MacDonald's upstairs. I'll have to visit that sushi place when I'm there.
