Finally hiked Tateyama – one of the 3 sacred mountains of Japan!

I started at Tateyama Station (https://maps.app.goo.gl/BjYyQFREPH8E1WkcA) and took the cable car up. Then got a bus here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/9Sjp9Qpk1WgT1xzP7 and got off and started walking at Murodo (https://maps.app.goo.gl/L3MonAm9fqc8yXm87).

I’m a full-time guide, mostly up in Tohoku (northeast Japan) but I also guide groups up Mt. Fuji in the pre and post season as well as lead normal tours in places like Kyoto, Nara, and Tokyo when contracted.

If you’re interested in hiring me to guide you either on a hike or around town, send me an email through this channel or message me on Instagram or Twitter. Some additional info is available here: https://gonorthjapan.com/

  1. Greeting from Thai! Thank you for your amazing footage and great storytelling as always! I actually planning to do the hiking from Hakkoda ropeway on 29 December and another hiking from Zao ropeway on 31 December. Reaching summit or not, will depend on my physique. But after all, thanks to your video and good advice that I decided to planned for Japan visit and do the hiking!! Hopefully the weather will be kind to me during that date!

  2. Accessible and less crowded than Fuji, definitely sounds worth a visit that and it just looks spectacular.

If you’re wanting feedback I love this type of video. An interesting and gorgeous mountain and a bit of history/mythology.

  3. So that's what it looks like up there. I've been to workshops high up on Mt Tateyama and I've been to Toyama countless times but I've never been to the top.

  4. I was already blown away when we went there and just walked around the lake area, but wow Tateyama looks even better from a hiker's POV! I'm glad that it's one of the easier hikes for all fitness levels. Makes me wanna go back and actually climb up one of the summits (i'm held back by my fear of heights tho lol). Another great video! Thanks Quinlan!💜

  5. The view is indeed breathtaking . Am under the distinct impression though that someone wouldn't really want to step on the wrong stone . At times it was kind off tricky to hike .

  6. Your videos are so inspirational Quinlan. I'm hoping to visit Tohoku and Hokkaido for a second time in the spring. I loved Morioka, such a chill town. But I might have to make a diversion to do this hike, those views are stunning. Great job!

  7. Absolutely gorgeous! I love these videos in which stunning vistas are combined with local stories and the cultural importance of those landscapes. Such a perfect combo. I was wondering if the priest hiked up the mountain every day or only on special occasions, but then you said it was easily accessible via cable car and bus. Until that point I was thinking he must be the fittest person in Japan doing that hike every day! 🙂

  8. You have now visited both ends of the Japanese High route – Tateyama and Yari. I visited Tateyama with a group I was guiding on the haute route in October 2019 – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OPfNMg-ATKM&t=1s (Yes you've already seen my video and there were no drone restrictions in 2019). Unfortunatley we didn't have time to do the whole horseshoe of mountains, I will some time.

  9. awesome views! im sure its covered in snow now but i wonder if you can still go up to the summit this time of year?
