Hiroshima – walking tour

In this journey, I began in Uwajima, Shikoku, and traveled by train through the scenic Shikoku countryside to Matsuyama. From there, I crossed the Seto Inland Sea by ferry, arriving on Honshu, home to the historic city of Hiroshima.
Hiroshima, a city forever etched into history, stands as a symbol of resilience and peace. Known worldwide as the site of the atomic bombing in 1945, the city has transformed into a vibrant and modern metropolis while preserving its historical significance. The Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, with its iconic A-Bomb Dome and Peace Memorial Museum, serves as a poignant reminder of the past and a beacon for global peace.
Hiroshima Castle, also known as the Carp Castle, showcases the city’s feudal history and offers a fascinating contrast to its modern identity. Miyajima Island, just a short ferry ride away, is home to the iconic Itsukushima Shrine and its “floating” torii gate, one of Japan’s most photographed landmarks.
For whisky enthusiasts, Hiroshima offers hidden gems like Bar Kirkwall and Bar Yoh. Both establishments boast an impressive collection of Japanese whiskies, and the expert bartenders offer an unparalleled tasting experience. Sampling rare and exquisite Japanese whiskies in these intimate settings is a must for connoisseurs.
From its poignant history to its modern vibrancy and rich cultural offerings, Hiroshima is a city that leaves a deep and lasting impression.
