Shinkyogoku Shopping Street Walking Tour
Shinkyogoku Shopping Street Walking Tour in Kyoto, Japan. This video was taken in September 2024 and shows how one of Kyoto’s busiest shopping street looks like during the peak hours. However, this was not on a weekend, but taken on a weekday in the main Kawaramachi area of Kyoto, which is the busiest part of the historical city.
For anyone visiting Kyoto, Kawaramachi would be the perfect place to stay, if you love a bit of historical and yet, modern city lifestyle, where old meets new. Over here, there are several shopping streets to explore while the main Kawaramachi-dori main street serves as the shopping centre of Kyoto. Think of this place as Namba or Shinsaibashi in Osaka.
For those planning to explore Shinkyogoku Shopping Street, there are several entrances and exits found all over here, and there is almost never ending lanes of shopping. This street also connects to the Nishiki Market shopping street so you will get two in one when you are here.
The Shinkyogoku Shopping Street comes alive around 10-11 AM, and starts to close around 4-5 PM, therefore, the best time to visit is from 11 AM to 3 PM. There are also lots of choices for lunch, snacks and coffee all along the street.
