Nikko: An Easy Day Trip from Tokyo! Japan Travel Vlog

This newest Japan travel vlog will bring you on an unforgettable day trip from Tokyo to the enchanting town of Nikko! Just under 2 hours away by train, Nikko is a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its ornately decorated Toshogu Shrine, where Tokugawa Ieyasu was enshrined after his death in 1616. Twenty years later, Ieyasu’s grandson (Iemitsu, the third Tokugawa shogun) constructed an elaborate complex around Ieyasu’s mausoleum.

While we visited Japan in March, Nikko truly comes alive during fall, with vibrant foliage painting the landscape. As you journey through the mountains, witness the golden hues of maple leaves and the tranquil beauty of the Senjogahara Marsh. Don’t miss the breathtaking Yudaki Falls—nature’s masterpiece.

We decided to travel in style aboard the Spacia X limited express train. Luxurious seating, larger windows, and thoughtful amenities await. Explore the Cockpit Lounge or indulge in the Cockpit Suite—the choice is yours!

  1. beautiful shrine. How long were you on the train? I learned that I really enjoy "tourist train" travel when I was in Alaska. I need to do another train trip sometime…maybe trans-Canada.

  2. thanks, going to Nikko in about a month now for a ryokan…was curious how to get there. How did you get on that new train? Was it on the train station terminal or an app?

  3. Omg I love Nikko! And I so want to try that train! I left Japan in June 2023 for treatment but I’ve got to go back and go in the fancy lounge!!!
