Yamadera Risshaku-ji Train and Walk (4K) (Ethereal Ambience)
My journey to Yamadera started early, to get to the temple ascent just after it opened at 8am. This meant the town and climb were nice and quiet, and the few people I crossed paths with were largely locals doing their observance, with polite greetings and smiles to exchange. The path being less busy was definitely useful in some of the skinnier sections.
The train ride from Sendai was also very pleasant, though a bit claustrophobic through thick forests and tunnels once you reach the mountains. The final stretch goes through the Omoshiroyama Autumn Leaves River Gorge – unfortunately I was too early for the full effect, though the leaves were turning at the higher altitudes of the temple area.
