Japanese Parade Dedicated To The Hayato Tribe.
The Kagoshima Shrine Hayatohama Kudari is an event that depicts Yamasachihiko’s overnight trip to the seashore after leaving the shrine once a year to meet the god of the sea. Shinto priests warriors, and parishioners form a procession to guide the deity from Kagoshima Shrine to Hamanoichi Port. Living creatures such as sea breams are released back into the sea to appease the spirits. The gods arrive at a sacred place where they will be entertained and spend the night.
The next day, the procession carries a shrine and parade the streets back to Kagoshima Shrine. This parade and journey honors the Hayato people who were sacrificed in resistance to the Yamato Imperial Court, which was trying to dominate the entire country. This event was discontinued in the early Showa period but was revived in the year 2000. The journey from port to the main shrine is about 4 km. This festival has a long history, and I hope you’ll enjoy this year experience.
