Magome | old post village | Gifu prefecture in Japan
We visited Magome, a small post town in Gifu prefecture. This was 1 of 69 post towns from Kyoto to Tokyo and was home to merchants and feudal lords. Currently a tourist destination with incredible views of Mt Ena. You can hike the original walking route and visit plenty of historic sites along the way. The restaurants are very important here too. The buckwheat noodle originated here and is still eaten today. About hour and a half from Nagoya by toll and car there’s parking. Another option is by JR train or bus but we saw hikers going through here. Definitely a true Japanese town and not your average tourist trap.
