Itsukushima Shrine is a shrine with a group of buildings lined up on the sea, and its object of worship is Miyajima (Itsukushima) itself, floating in the Seto Inland Sea. There are many religious facilities around the world, but a facility like Itsukushima Shrine is unique in that it considers the ocean as its precinct and has a spatial design that takes the ebb and flow of the tide into consideration.
