A stroll through the Akasaka Palace in Tokyo
Take a stroll with me through the grounds of the former crown prince residence – the Akasaka Palace. Currently a State Guest House, the Akasaka Palace with its distinctive European style is a building unique for Tokyo. Built in 1909 in a Neo-baroque style, its elegant gates resemble those of Versailles with perhaps the only thing that reminds the visitor they are not in an European court but in Japan are the huge samurai statues on the roof, guarding the entrance door. On the back of the Palace you see a beautiful fountain that again has a unique combination of European and Japanese elements. Both the Palace and the fountain are designated as national treasures.
While visiting the gardens of the Palace doesn’t require reservation if you want to have a tour inside the building and the Japanese style guest house you need to make reservation in advance. For more information go here:
