Amazed by HAMPI ๐ฎ๐ณ Karnataka India Solo Travel Vlog
I finally made it to Hampi – a small town in Karnataka known for it’s many ruins and being an UNESCO World Heritage Site. I’d heard so many great things about Hampi that I HAD to visit despite it being a little more difficult to reach. I took a long overnight bus from Goa to Hampi before spending a relaxing few days in this gorgeous town.
I started the day by getting breakfast at Old Chill Out Ganesh Restaurant which was so good! They even had amazing iced americanos (my favorite coffee)! From there I started exploring some of the 1,600+ temples in Hampi, India! The first one I headed to was the most famous one: Virupaksha Temple. It’s directly in the center of Hampi and I saw it all lit up when arriving off my night bus. I had to leave my shoes at the door before entering, but it was gorgeous! It was also the first temple where I personally saw an elephant inside the temple. I then walked into the huge Hemakuta Hill Temple complex. While exploring Hemakuta Temple, I stumbled upon the Kadalekalu Ganesha Temple. I didn’t hear about this one before finding it, but it was so cool!! I loved all the intricate carvings on the columns as well as the giant Ganesha monolith statue! Next to the first big Ganesha, I found another: Saasivekaalu Ganesha. While it wasn’t as impressive as the one before, it was still really cool to see! After checking that out, I crossed the street to the old Krishna Bazaar ruins. Across the street again was the Krishna Temple – another gorgeous, intricately decorated temple! It was really hot so I decided to sit down in the temple grounds for a little and relax before continuing. 5 minutes from there I went to the Shri Lakshmi Narasimha Temple. It was also amazing and really unique! I loved how there were so many temples just in walking distance from my guesthouse in the middle of Hampi!! From there I walked 15 minutes back to the center of Hampi to see the Hampi Bazaar. The Hampi Bazaar actually has two parts: the old street full of ruins from one of the biggest bazaars of its time as well as the area that is the current ‘shopping street’ in Hampi. I walked down the 750 meters of the Hampi Bazaar before turning down the side street to the river. A couple minutes down the path and I arrived at the Kampa Bhupa Marga riverside pathway. It’s a gorgeous walk along the river in Hampi full of more temples, little cave pathways, river boats, and cute kids! After walking along the river for a little, I checked out the Pushkarni Temple which used to be full of water. I think it still is during rainy season? But when I visited there was no water, although it was still gorgeous. I bought some overpriced clothes (even after over 2 months in India and years in Thailand I can’t bargain to save my life ๐ญ). After a little break at home (to edit) I walked along the old Hampi Bazaar to the giant monolithic Nandi bull statue before starting the hike up Matanga Hill for sunset. There are multiple ways to climb up Matanga Hill, but I chose the path next to the bull statue. The views were gorgeous!!! Although the stairs were scary and the monkeys even scarier. It was a great ending to my first day in Hampi, Karnataka, India!!!

You should have had the tender coconut water – that would have kept you well hydrated and energized in the heat as its full of electrolytes. At 14.00, just when you turn to go towards the river there was a stall selling tender coconut.

Hampi is just beyond beautiful. Some of the places, like the Queens baths, lotus palace, elephant stables. It takes your breath away. The step well, canal systems. Carved plates/ thalis and katories , amazing. The monolith huge doors, which could only be opened by elephants. Secret underground chamber, so the king could have discussions and no one else would hear. The administration area is spectacular. You see carvings of elephants, horses and camels. That was a sign that trade used to take place with Persia and Arabia. There are two pillars near this area, which were used as lathes, to shape the pillars into perfect rounds. The technology behind all of this is so wonderful to see. The main temples, the chariot, and the musical pillars. if it was in a western country it would have been wonder of the world.
5 Muslim Kingdom United, invaded to destroy and burnt Hampi for 6 months.
In 1565, at the Battle of Talikota, a coalition of Muslim sultanates entered into a war with the Vijayanagara Empire. They captured and behe@ded the king Aliya Rama Raya, followed by a massive destruction of the infrastructure fabric of Hampi and the metropolitan Vijayanagara.
Good job walking with out a hat
Please visit Kailasa Temple at Ellora Caves in Maharashtra India. It's considered greatest architecture in history of mankind, because the way it was built seems unbelievable for even todayโs time. The temple was built at least 1300 years ago. No stone or nothing was added they carved a mammoth Granite rock/mountain with intricate details. The Kailasa Temple is notable for its vertical excavation-carvers started at the top of the original rock and excavated downward. At least 400000 tonnes of stones have been removed in the process. About 7000 workers and their future generations worked for 135 years. One small mistake and you have to rebuild the whole temple because it's carved into the rock without adding anything, that too up to down.
It has secret underground tunnels believed to be leading to underground city which is even more mysterious and government have totally locked that down and no researchers are allowed to go inside.
other than Kailasa Temple there are 99 other cave temples there (100 total) of which 34 are open for public viewing. whole temple complex known at Ellora Caves.
Always fun traveling with you ๐ Lots of cool ruins and temples. the scenery was gorgeous. Enjoy, stay safe & be well โฃ
Best not to take any food to monkey infested areas. If they smell food, they get aggressive. They are spoilt by people feeding them.

Thank you for visiting this place mam. I have lived my entire life in India but got the chance to visit hampi only last October. Me and a friend of mine had the plan to stay in hampi for 2 days but once we got there the place just cast a spell on us and we ended up spending an entire week.
Last year it was less crowded and the weather was much cooler. We took many sunrise walks and would walk upto any mound or hill and just sit there absorving the absolutely magnificent view of the ruins.
Its a magical place and everyone should visit and atleast spend 3-4 days to really observe the place.
Hope you are wearing sunscreen. Remember Hugh Jackman.
Its not a bad idea to buy an umbrella. Must be cheap in India.
What are your views on India so far? Do you think India is dirty and a failed state? I have heard many foreigners saying such things. Please give your honest review of whatever you have seen so far, and it's completely okay if you have negative things to say. Just share it, please.
The landscape looks dry and hot. Remember your sunscreen and a good moisturizer as you navigate through the troops of monkeys and Hindi ruins. safe travels, young lady.
If govt can take care and build little more infra, this will be a great place for tourists
