Hiking Japan’s Most Famous Trail: The Nakasendo Way

Nestled in the rural countryside of Japan, you can walk on the Nakasendo Trail in the exact footsteps of merchants, samurai, monks, and travelers traveling from Tokyo to Kyoto during the Edo Period.

Its name translates literally to “pathway through the mountains”, where you can hike through rural post towns, scenic countryside, and experience the true essence and culture of Japan.

We’ve hiked this trail twice now and in this video, we’ll show you what it’s like traveling from the small post towns of Magome to Tsumago on the Nakasendo Trail. It was one of our favorite days during our time in Japan.

  1. You were right! I did love the open! Sweet Juniper! Great piece. Loved the tea house, the hiking trail, the peaceful music you chose for the video, that both of you did the VO, the funny Office bear clip, Juni ringing the bell…all of it!
