Hachijojima is an island in the Izu Archipelago, located about 290km south of mainland Tokyo with a population of around 8,000. Known for its stunning natural scenery and warm climate, it’s often called “Japan’s Hawaii.” Enjoy beautiful beaches, hike the majestic Mount Hachijo-Fuji, and relax in traditional Japanese hot springs. The island’s main industries are agriculture, fishing, and tourism, famous for foods like ashitaba and kusaya. I enjoyed both foods with beer.
Recently, it gained popularity as the setting for the “Detective Conan” movie. Access is easy, with a 50-minute flight or a 10-hour boat ride from Tokyo. Hachijojima’s rich nature and unique local products make it a perfect island getaway in Japan.
