You’ve probably seen the photos of a beautiful floating torii gate in Japan and we were so excited to visit the island of Miyajima. Because we wanted to go at sunset, the tide was low and we weren’t able to see it floating like in the photos but at least we enjoyed the island with fewer crowds. There are so many things to do on Miyajima with hotels, restaurants, shrines, parks and waterfalls that could fill a full weekend.

Getting from Hiroshima to Miyajima was very straight forward and is completely covered with the Japan Rail Pass.
