Giant Tug of War in Okinawa. Yonabaru Great Tug of War
Whilst in Okinawa, Japan, I attended the thrilling spectacle of the Yonabaru Great Tug-of-War Festival. This ancient tradition, dating back to the Ryukyu Kingdom, is a religious ritual for a bountiful harvest. I experienced the intense competition between the east and west sides as they battled it out with a massive 5-ton rope. I am sharing this so that you too can witness the colorful costumes, energetic atmosphere, and unique customs that make this festival unforgettable.
