How to Survive Nicaragua’s Insane Heat and Outdoor Activities 🇳🇮

Viewer Mike discusses his experiences in evaluating Nicaragua as a potential expat relocation destination and talks about his challenges with the heat and lack of outdoor spaces for exercise. Did he find it too hot? Did he give his body the requisite six months to adapt the blood to tropical temperatures?

Let’s talk about how to properly evaluate climate, and how to find spaces for outdoor exercise and activities in places like Nicaragua. Does Leon, Nicaragua have any spaces to get out and walk or job safely? How do the locals do it?

  1. Depends what city mga chinandega Leon caliente but go to Diriamba, jinotepe matagalpa very good weather more to the north remember is more comfortable or get AC and fix the problem or move to Alaska you not need AC

  2. Really clear picture. New equipment? Want to come to Nicaragua but I have a dog who already was abused by Aeromexico

  3. Interesting stuff for sure! So, a short-ish scouting trip could be used rule out many things that a person could find not doable. But, not really the heat factor.

  4. Leon smoked me out. Love the overall conditions in esteli and matagalpa. I learned something new regarding the 6 month acclimation period. I was only in country for a few months, so I would have probably adjusted. That said, I can watch other people exercise and sweat, so who knows.

  5. 1. The best part of the video is you running. You almost had me thinking that you are a runner. Glad that you clarified that you are not 🙂 2. The problem with online research about the temperature is that technically many places have the same average temperature (88F to 94F), but in reality, the places feel very different. 3. I disagree with your statement about the lack of wind in Granada, there is often a nice breeze from the lake. 3. In Granada, there are a few coffee carts in that are open in the morning and they are a few places to get coffee and sit in the front porch area. I will say that for a country that grows coffee, Nicaragua isn't a great place to get a cup of coffee. 4. I only spray my feet and ankles with bug spray, never had any issue being bitten anywhere else. (note that my numbers aren't intended to match you list you were working from).

  6. Hi Scott. I am trying to find an email for you. I really appreciate your commentary and observations and thinking of doing some things there. Everything you comment on is true and valid and I know having lived decades in south america. Especially your take on trash. The trash is much better there than say Peru. Anyway, I want to keep it mellow, in the meantime, searching for your email.

  7. You mentioned the food is greasy. How easy is it to eat healthily if you don't want to prepare you own food all the time?

  8. I keep worrying about the heat…then I take my dog out for a walk and realize it is 101 degrees at 6PM in SW Nebraska. Nicaragua will be like taking a break.

  9. I like how you read the statement of fact that someone makes about there being no jogging paths, and then cut to the vid of a jogging path. Of there being no sidewalks to walk on – Here I am walking on a sidewalk, and there's another across the street. lol 😸

  10. I have been living here 10 years, and I have never used air conditioning. We do use fans, but any air conditioned space, except for La Colonia, is unbearably cold to me. It did take probably over 6 months to fully get used to the heat, but with fans it was always doable. Also, we live near the center of town, so fior sure it's the hottest. But walking in the street there are usually breezes and it's comfortable, although I do walk mostly in the shade.

  11. While I agree that the 80's is not that hot it FEELS much hotter than most places i've been to due to 1 not having AC on ongoing basis for respite and two due to the humidity..I'm in Matagalpa right now and it feels much much cooler even though the numbers are fairly close…even down to the humidity..The other thing I just realized is that the 2 apartments I've rented in Leon both had windows to the outside in the living rooms BUT not in the bedrooms…those just opened to the living room and THAT MADE IT MUCH MUCH hotter and uncomfortable in there!!

  12. The cotton comment was really strange. I only wear cotton and linen. I wear long sleeved shirts and pants. I feel very comfortable. I left all of my plastic clothing in Canada.
