Hiking Japan’s ancient and legendary highway | 8KM hike, Magome-juku to Tsumago-juku | Solo Travel 🥾

NAKASENDO, Japan’s ancient and legendary highway, once traveled by samurai, feudal lords, sometimes members of the Imperial family, and many others, is now a popular hiking trail for travelers who love off-the-beaten path. ⛰️

Our hike starts at the beautifully-preserved post-town of Magome-juku (Gifu Prefecture) to another historic and stunning post-town, Tsumago-juku (Nagano Prefecture).

In this 8km hike, I will be taking you through forests and secluded villages and to an adventure that’s good for the heart and soul. ♥️

TIPS:
✅ Stay at least for a night in one of the post-towns. Inns here are quite difficult to book so make sure that you check way in advance.
✅ If you’re hiking from Magome-juku and staying in Tsumago-juku, for the night, you can avail of the baggae transfer service arrangement between Magome and Tsumago Tourist Information Centers so you can hike Nakasendo hands-free. Rate is JPY1000 per bag or luggage.
✅ There’s no fee to hike the Nakasendo so this activity is definitely budget-friendly. But please observe rules and regulations such not drinking/eating on the trail, not littering, etc
