Okinawa, located at Japan’s southernmost point, is made up of over 150 islands.
First, visit the beautiful beaches. Okinawa’s clear waters and unique natural environment have earned it a UNESCO World Natural Heritage designation. Known as the “Hawaii of the East,” it attracts visitors worldwide with its stunning beaches and numerous resorts.
Second, see the Tower of Himeyuri. This memorial honors the Himeyuri students who tragically lost their lives during the Battle of Okinawa in WWII. The battle’s heartbreaking stories are a crucial part of Okinawa’s history and must be remembered.
Third, explore Kokusai Street. This 1.6 km main street, known as the “Miracle 1 Mile,” was one of the first areas to recover from the devastation of WWII. It’s now a bustling area filled with restaurants where you can try Okinawan specialties.
