Mie, Japan’s Hidden Gem – Explore This Incredible Prefecture!

Only 0.7% of international tourists visit this prefecture! 😱 👇🏼

Often overlooked by most people visiting Japan, Mie is an incredible prefecture with so much to offer!

We took the ‘scenic route’ (anyone else a fan of this? 😝) from Osaka to Nagoya by travelling via Ise-Shima! Ise-Shima 伊勢志摩 is a national park located in Mie where you’ll find the cities of Ise and Toba.

Taking the Kintetsu Line from Osaka-Namba, you can take the train to Ise-Shi, where you can store your luggage in the station’s coin lockers if you’re just spending the day! If you travel early in the morning, you can include Toba and Mikimoto Pearl Island in your itinerary as well!

One of the most famous places in Ise-Shima is Meoto Iwa 夫婦岩, also known as the ‘Wedded Rocks’. I didn’t know until we went but my fiancé had actually considered proposing there 🥹🥹🥹

The rocks are sacred rocks, located within a shrine complex, and are connected by a ‘shimenawa rope’ which acts as the division between the spiritual and earthly realms. Unfortunately the tide times were against us (8am or 11pm for high tide I think on the day we went 😂) but check the tide timetable if you have options for when to go!

Make sure to also visit Ise-City to see Okage Yokocho おかげ横丁, a replica Edo-period town 🥰 it’s beautiful around sunset! Ise Jingu 伊勢神宮 is also well worth visiting, and is one of the most important shrines in Japan!

Have you heard of Mie prefecture before? Would you go here to take the ‘scenic route’? 🤩
