Is it a good idea to take your RV on the Million Dollar Highway? There are breathtaking mountain, valley, and gorge views between Ouray and Silverton. There are also hairpin turns and steep drop-offs making the drive a real challenge towing a fifth wheel.

  1. The worst part for us was the frustrated locals. They would drive in a reckless manner. The road was fine, but the contractors flying past on double yellows was unnerving….

  2. We stayed at Haviland State Park outside of Durango for over a week. It was so beautiful! We drove to Silverton on part of that scary road. We enjoyed the pull offs to snap pictures in the canyons. Totality breathtaking 😍

  3. I've been on the Million Dollar Hwy several times and I love it. I've been there in different seasons. I love it. I live in Coloradoand have been all over the state both in my class A as well as just a car. Enjoy Colorado!!

  4. Every since I came across your page, I have really fell in love with watching your adventures. I've always wanted to comment, but you had them off. Today, I just want to ask, Marisa who does your color, because its really beautiful?

  5. Driven the Million Dollar Highway a few times. I think the drive over the top of Rocky Mountain National Park is far more intense. Honorable mention would go to the Doherty Slide in Oregon.

  6. We can say, living in the flat portion of Texas and taking the million dollar hwy in a car….. a Colorado resident gave us the finger. Oh well.😃
    Enjoyed your version, stay safe.

  7. Well my goodness, I just discovered y’all tonight. Wow, what a journey you are all experiencing. Absolutely breathtaking scenery. Thankful I found you guys!

  8. Take a few of the winter months and live in Grand Junction…. Ski Powderhorn daily as well as hiking some great trails near town. After one month of living here I purchased a house near the university…best move ever. Currently I work and rent in NORCAL… but always spend my vacation time back in Grand Junction.

  9. Our first trip with our solitude 390rk-r was from Texas to Ouray CO. We took the million dollar highway. That was before I knew my 2018 truck had a different way of engaging the compression brake than my 2005. I thought tow/haul mode would do it, and I thought it was broken. So we did it with just the truck and trailer brakes. Slowing way down, then coasting in a lower gear until I had to brake again. It was scary for my wife, because she was on the edge of the road. We made it. It would be better with the compression brake, but she has assured me… we won't do that again.

  10. Terrified of heights… this road is gorgeous but a big fat NOPE for me! Not even in a car lol! Oh, and I'd need at least 5 changes of underwear!

  11. Of the three passes coming down from Ouray, Red mountain pass, Molas pass, and Coal Bank pass, which one made you the most nervous? Did you have any issues with the truck or the brakes getting hot? Did your engine brake keep you in check? Did you feel that the turns gave you enough room to swing and not run people off the road in the opposing lanes of traffic? Would you do it again?

  12. The beauty there is just amazing! Was just there for the first time last week. Your video was like a quick time warp. Keep up the great work you two, or should I say four, do!

  13. Nathan, you stress too much. Lol. Going up is much easier than going down. This summer we went the opposite direction you did (from Silverton to Ouray) in our 38' coach. It was a blast! It is one of my favorite passes, especially from the technical aspect. When we got to the real twisty steep section, I just geared down to 1st gear and exhaust brake as needed and enjoyed the ride. I hardly needed to use brakes at all. There is just so much beauty out there. Thank you for the amazing video, it not only brought us back to the places we love, but also made me realize how much I miss out on by having to pay attention to the road while driving.

  14. Marissa: “I can’t even put it into words right now”
Nate: “I can put it into words… I’ma wet my pants”
    Everyone else: 😂🤣😮🤯😳😫😨😎💪🏼🤙🏼👊🏼

  15. I did the Million Dollar Highway with my RV on the back, but it was a gasser with no Jake brake. It was curve after curve each posted at 25 MPH, therefore there was no opportunity to get rolling too fast for the next curve. I would think your diesel should have handled it very well using only a low gear and your max setting on your Jake,, you should have been just fine.

  16. Love your videos!..Thanks. A question about your tow truck, do you think a dually is necessary for your size 5th wheel?.. Thanks again.

  17. LOL we double tow it up to 69 ft long through Durango north to Silverton or further. Also do Wolf Creek all the time and La Veta. LOL

  18. We've been to Silverstone Colorado from Durango in a bus, and back on the train, But in June 2019, we wanted to go to Ouray and when we got to the part of the road where there's no guard rail, I said WOW L👁👁K at this scary, road, and I told my wife on the way back the drop off is on your side, and right away she told me NO!! YOU FIND ANOTHER ROAD!! and after talking to other RV'ers they told me to drive back thru Gunningson.

  19. I can understand, One being nervous and yes I'd be going slow also ? Dang..I'd really be nervous going back down. 😬 LOL with the driver..What could happen..A flat , brakes Crystalize from the heat or the motor gets hot 🔥 Then there's always the possibility of a landslide or the universal goes out from the weight ones pulling ? I guess, Sometimes ones gotta be optimistic 🤷 AND, for all the wife's out there , This is What's going through all the husband's heads, And , don't talk or distract , until we reach the top or bottom ? Yeah UNDERSTANDING.. And , thanks for info 👍 I'm going down the poor man's road 😢 ? Thanks..Great video 📹

  20. Going there in September…… but if you folks want to see real bum clenching proper mountain passes come to the alps in Europe. YouTube the Stelvio pass, Grimsel Pass, or Col de Bonnette, to name a few. There are 1000’s of miles not just 23. Worth trying it sometime in your life 👍

  21. Great review of that ride. I look at it this way, just don't leave the road. So far, so good, in that with nearly 60,000kms towed in the last 7 years and I have been fortunate not to leave the road yet. If I ever do have the misfortune to leave the road with our rig in tow, I just hope it is not on that one. 🙂 Continued safe travels.

  22. I am right there with you Nathan. No guardrails!? Are you kidding me? I would have not taken a breathe and would have had my eyes closed most of the time!

  23. It is really not as bad as people say it is just pay attention driving the interstate is worse but red mountain no big dill people exaggerate
