Curious about how cheap Tokyo travel can be compared to NYC? In this video, we’ll do a price comparison and show you just how budget-friendly a trip to Tokyo, Japan can be. I visited NYC from Tokyo to find out.

When I traveled in June, the Yen made a record cheap 162 Yen per 1 US Dollar. I showed price in 150 Yen for a dollar just in case. Please note that price and exchange rate changes all the time.

  1. Hi Kengo-san! What an interesting video. I liked your comment about how people smile more in New York versus Japan. Thank you for sharing parts of your trip.😎🌺🍍🏝🥷

  2. Really cool video Kenchan! I hope you had a nice time in New York. I enjoyed it, but much prefer Tokyo!

  3. Nice one Kengo san! Great teleport trick! One jump and you are in New York! But was that a white shoe turned black in New York 😎

  4. Nice change from the usual content. I knew before visiting Japan that things would be cheaper, but I was surprised just how much less expensive many things were…and without sacrificing quality(particularly the food). Coming back home and looking at the prices on menus and in grocery stores was a bit 😩.

  5. An interesting video Kengo-San.

Ive been travelling to the USA for many years and it always represented good value, even when the exchange rate wasnt great. Since the pandemic prices have just become absolutely crazy in America. Basic Holiday Inn Expresses at $300+ per night, a McDonald's meal for $12 or so. I still go to America but am very much more selective about where I visit.

Ive been visiting Japan for many years as well, and have been when you were getting ¥130 yen to the pound, as well as more recently at ¥195 to the pound. Even at ¥130 yen Japan felt pretty reasonable, with the ability to eat a meal for around ¥1000. Now at close to ¥200 to the pound it seems crazily cheap.

That said, to me the price isnt what keeps me coming back to Japan but the beauty of the country, the huge range of experiences and the hospitality of Japanese people in general.

  6. Stay safe Tokyo Kenchan. I hope your bank account recovers from your trip to the USA. I know which country I prefer because of the prices, cleanliness, culture, people, and safety.

  7. In Asia there are cheaper destinations compared to Japan. Japan offers a lot more than being a cheap destination. Oh north Americans form only 3.5% of tourists to Japan. East Asians 84%.

  8. Tokyo is half the price in cost of living compared to Fort Walton Beach Florida.
I moved to Tokyo a year ago, I travel and eat out 80% more than I did in Florida.
