This is behind the counter at a local Japanese Taiyaki Red Bean Paste Sweets Shop in Tokyo Japan. Taiyaki is a traditional Japanese sweet caked filled with glorious red bean paste and perfectly sandwiched between fish shaped like-pancakes. This Tokyo hidden gem is located just a 2 minute walk from Tokyo’s ebisu station. This shop is known for its thin crispy crust and its overwhelming amount of Tsubuan, a chunky style of red bean paste, all freshly prepared in-store. On a busy day, the shop sells about 1500 taiyaki. Taiyaki itself dates back to Japan’s meiji period, created mysteriously when a vendor decided one day to take a cylinder-shaped Japanese snack called imagawayaki and shape it in the form a tai fish, red sea bream, an auspicious fish Japan commonly used in celebrations. Back then, red sea bream was quite an expensive fish for regular people, so taiyaki became a popular lucky fortune alternative. In Japan, red bean paste used to be more of a savory food, when monks used it as a substitute for meat. The shift to a sweet, occurred during the Muromachi period as the tea ceremony became popular and Japanese indulged in sweet anko to pair with their tea.

  1. I was in Tokyo in late May and of course I stopped by Tayaki Sharaku, from one of your old videos.
The elderly owners were really lovely and their tayaki were as crispy and tasty as you said! 😊😊😊

  2. Missed a great opportunity to explain the difference between "tennen" taiyaki and "yoshoku" taiyaki.

  3. Sure thing what's doing works for business company restaurant Japan 🗾 salary how much $18 per month nice 👍🏻😊😂

  4. It's crazy to me that they use raw ingredients and make every component from scratch and its still cheaper than the microwaved shrimp / pasta from Olive Garden

  5. It's surprising that a shop can exist with multiple employees and they are only selling mainly one item. Really speaks to the quality of the taiyaki.

  6. I prefer less anko and more dough ^^V
With all the sugar in the Anko I always feel like I need to puke when eating to much of it …
