Kawaguchiko station is very well connected with Tokyo, there are many easy connection by trains, buses and even direct highway buses from Shinjuku station in Tokyo. It takes about 3-4 hours to reach Kawaguchiko station from Tokyo depending upon the mode of transportation.
There are many more attractions in this area like cafes, museums and a ropeway.
The best way to travel in this area are the sightseeing buses. A two days pass give unlimited rides for two consecutive days and covers most of the Fuji five lakes area.
A tourist information centre next to Kawaguchiko station is more than happy to provide all the information. They have maps of the sightseeing buses that gives detailed information of all the stops and the attractions on the route.
