Hey friends! This is just a reminder that climbing Mt. Fuji is no joke. Even professionals and people with significant climbing experience can get into accidents. Always stay informed and never take nature lightly.

RIP to the people who unfortunately passed.

[Music] if you are contemplating an offseason climb of Mount Fuji let this video be your invitation to think it over why just last week four bodies were found in the mountain and it made the headlines so let’s delve into what happened hi my name is Melle you’re watching Tokyo p 3 and today I’m here to catch you up with what’s buzzing in Japan unfortunately today’s piece of news is rather somber last Monday news outlets reported The Disappearance of a Japanese man in his 50s he began his climb up man Fuji Friday evening and he told his family this reached the summit sometime before noon and even sent his wife a photo however by Sunday he hadn’t returned home prompting search operations to commence his last known location was near the crater by Thursday June 27 search team discovered not one but three bodies near the crater all in separate locations although police haven’t released details it’s believed that one of these may be the missing Tokyo resident in a separate incident the same day a professional rock climber also fell ill while on the Trail and unfortunately tragically passed now these incidents occurred right before Mount Fuji’s official climbing season so if there’s one takeaway from this video it’s this climbing Mount Fuji is dangerous period climbing Mount Fuji offseason even more dangerous now let’s talk about the climbing season of Mount fushi the official climbing season typically begins July 1st for the Yoshida Trail that’s the most popular Trail and July 10th for the shisa side during this period designated Mountain Huts are open providing essential services like shelter food and other medical assistance to climbers now these stes are not arbitrary they coincide with stable weather conditions and better prepared facilities Mount Fuji is notorious for its unstable unpredictable weather patterns even during climbing season so offseason these risks escalate significantly attempting The Climb before or after the official season means you’ll encounter harsher weather reduced access to facilities and the ter can also be dangerous because of lingering snow and ice posing risks even to experience climbers now you might be wondering with all these risks why do people attempt to climb Mount Fuji off season the reality is if you’re on the Yoshida Trail which is the most popular one it feels less like a hike and more like a procession so that feeling of being one with nature during a hike it’s more like being one person in a moving crowd and that sea of clouds you’re supposed to see at the summit it’s more like a sea of heads looking at the same thing so with that in mind I can’t really blame people for wanting to climb Mount Fuji off season just to give you a better idea of how dangerous the mountain can be basically somebody dies on Mount Fuji each year last year that number was seven the most common causes are altitude sickness leading to heart attacks and Falling Rocks then there’s also that incident in 2019 when a live streamer practically filmed his own demise when he climbed the mountain off seon without proper gear and much experience you can still find the video if you search for it by the way it’s a horrifying thing to watch please be warned now there’s one more reason why I’m making this video and it’s actually personal it’s because I’ve hiked Mount Fuji off seon but let me make it clear this was a government sponsored event that invited tour professionals we were in a group and it was a guided hike and actually we didn’t go to the summit it was a hike down from The Sixth Station of Mount Fuji normally when you climb Mount Fuji you start at the fifth station and then hike to the summit and then go back down the hike that I was part of was like a halfday trip where we started at the fifth station and then climbed to the sixth and then went all the way down so what was my experience like easily the worst hike of my life I thought I was going to die I love hiking and I share some of my hiking videos on this channel and I usually choose like beginner to intermediate Trails but this hike that I was on was the subashiri trail and it’s considered challenging and in some parts it was so steep that just looking down was just pure horror for me it triggers so many memories from the past like accidents where I fell down a flight of stairs or somebody pushed me in a swamp because they’re bullies in any case Mount Fuji is not really my kind of Trail because it’s mostly sand and rocks and it feels like such a strange land where Kaiju or Godzilla would suddenly pop up my kind of Trail is somewhere where surrounded by flowers trees marshes and such now if you’re really keen on hiking Mount Fuji offseason it’s not illegal it’s definitely Poss possible especially if you have the physical fitness the experience and the proper gear you’ll also need to inform the police beforehand quinland from go north Japan has an excellent video about this and it goes into detail on what you need to prepare that video is linked down below and go give it a watch if you’re planning an offseason climb again the key word here is preparedness know your limits respect nature and stay informed this has been Mel for Tokyo pasty reminding you to always stay safe I’ll see you in the next video bye
