Osake station is 150 years old and celebrating…join me for a stroll around the upper floors. Happening at the same time is Osaka Art and Design exhibition being held around the city in interesting places, galleries and outdoor spaces.

and greetings everybody from Osaka station it is a beautiful day it’s Friday it’s looking amazing and the clock is just going to strike 12 will it do anything or not I’m not sure going to take you stroll around it is looking pretty gorgeous um the station is celebrating 150 years since being originally built here in 1874 oh nothing happens at 12 so as part of Osaka atum design we have got some really really beautiful flowers to take a look at so I’m going to walk you down here walk down to the flowers we’ll see how we’re going you can see some escalators at the end um we’ll try and get up the escalators and get on to some higher levels and get some views so welcome to Osaka Japan temperature today is around I’m guessing it’s forecast to be 31 so I’m guessing it’s around 29 at the moment Lisa Kora and welcome we’re looking so beautiful and green as I walk on the fake grass at first I wondered whether it was walkable or not be then I noticed people lying around on the grass enjoying having a great time so 150 years of Osaka station let’s look over here first um how are you doing Lisa whoa actually let me just take you down to the flowers so Sunny it is gorgeous look beautiful I’m actually filling in time before I go to Tokyo so I’ve got a train in about 3 hours so thought I would spend some time here and have a walk around look at the flowers looking absolutely gorgeous just give you a little quick quick little peek and then I want to get over to the look look how gorgeous I’m going to give you a good look at this all of this in a moment but for now just doing a little preview these are all every flower is real it’s amazing look okay we’re just going to head back over to the screen on want to show you the history of Osaka station so we’ll have a clock here in a minute see people just lying around enjoying here’s the clock might just head down to the other side it’s a little bit more in the shade K here you go we’re in Osaka station celebrating 150 years of Amazement I want to show you the screen are we on time here we go finding at the clock 150 hours woo 150 years wow steam trains [Music] you feel 150 today tell you what had a couple of good coffees nice breakfast at Cafe Cafe Tails where are we Ro C I’m a no Saka we’re standing right here we’re in the station nice to see you Roy in San Francisco bringing us beautiful San Francisco everyone Hugo you’re following Roy he’s great lots of lovely walks so there we go that was 150 years of history and Hugo has even got a stage here for you could do your do your tap dancing yeah but yeah it’s amazing station of course this is all new I guess I’m not sure when this big addition was put on maybe 10 or 15 years ago um and it’s a huge station the subway lines are below us and then the Japan Railway um are above us shinan does not come in here you need to go to shanos Saka so I’m off to shanos Saka of yeah Railway in Osaka and the Beautiful golden clock up there we’ll have a closer look at that in a minute probably fall over my station canvas so it’s really really incredible we’re going to have a look at the beautiful flower display and I can tell you every flower is real it’s amazing so this is part of Osaka Art and Design which seems to be going on for about a month and I have managed to catch a few of them isn’t this gorgeous look really beautiful so for those of you that love flowers boy this is really cool but hey thanks for joining everybody awesome every flower is actually they don’t look real but I’m pretty sure they are actually maybe maybe these are not real but these are here ah yes I think the ones that are coming out of the drums are not real but then we get to the real variety here yeah and they’re just gorgeous yes that’s right it’s only one stop and there’s lots of trains that go you can get the subway you can get the masuji line out to shinos Saka or all the most of the yeah all the Jr trains go out there as well including the Thunderbird so there we go got all these gorgeous yellows and oranges and we’re moving down to the red section the red Department yeah so sorry I think these are not real they sort of look too perfect don’t they but the color match as well uh so I guess they come in and over the next few weeks they be changing the uh cuz fresh flowers not going to last that long in the heat are they Mar Golds and Roses yeah and poppies they painted the drums beautifully so 150 years Osaka station had a great catch up with Dave not didn’t catch Dave with quo and UK carry on Wednesday night that was really awesome there’s a cafe here oh they got ice cream out there as well and the Beautiful golden clocker station yeah so we’ve been going about 7 minutes yeah it’s good yes Roy it’s fabulous isn’t it then you’ve got the red paint tube here flower so here’s the gardener this is how I knew they’re all real the gardeners the gardeners are here or somebody’s setting up for a photo op over here with some blue toys flower paint isn’t this gorgeous so I guess I guess they just gave this a good push and all the flowers came out that’s how it works yeah so just be beside me is the information for Osaka Art and Design 2024 it’s a splash of color all right really clever yeah amazing so there’s lots of um it’s on until the 25th of oh it’s only on for month so 29th of May until the 2 5th of uh June so I’m lucky I’m here to have caught it so let’s have a look at these beautiful flow so every flower here is real they’ve all just popped out of here and he’s just been doing his photo with his blue toys oh one more to go look at these aren’t these amazing W I know Japan doesn’t do Do Anything by halves look at this flower wow Don’t Do Anything by halves they just and they love it and people will come look at the da wow but not fall in the garden look at that he’s still got his tags on his blue toys that’s very cute beautiful wow go watering yes good beautiful wow and every flower wow just gorgeous just watering yeah beautiful so that’s our gardener our very happy Gardener watering all the flowers she’s got a few few these have either come out or going in who knows what gorgeous look really beautiful now we got to find out what this Fell’s doing over here with us blue oh wa got yeah fun he’s finishing up too Jo CA how’s it lovely to see you look the flowers are for you today gorgeous beautiful look I’m just loving them so Joe hope you’re all feeling better and if you’re not these will definitely put a smile on your face and a little bit of a a hop in your step look how gorgeous and the sunlight just catching them as well I’m so glad I came up I actually I should have booked a ticket a little bit earlier I just went to the station and got my um ticket for the shenan and I booked it for 3:00 the minute I booked for 3:00 I thought oh that’s stupid what am I going to do for 3 hours so so I’ll go for a wander around the station so I’m so glad I did bye-bye he’s gone this is fantastic though look ah she’s chatting to everybody that comes up man there taking photos with the flowers as well just absolutely gorgeous so she’ll take you for a walk to the top it’s just oh yeah I’m speechless because it’s all just so beautiful oh look at the red and white one yeah amazing so I’ve had a really really good couple of days had a beautiful ride on the train yesterday um that was out to is and went to a beautiful Temple um Most Japanese people know the temple it’s sort of like the most important one in Japan it’s where the emperor goes to to pray and when the emperor goes the um it’s not open to the public but he wasn’t there yesterday so we were lucky but also because it’s where the emperor goes nobody else can go unless you’re part of the emperor family or belong to the shrine so it’s really just for the god of gods Ferris wheel through there Japan loves its feris Wheels see it Japan loves feris Wheels out of Hospital fantastic that’s so good so my station canvas let’s go for a walk we’ll see how we get on we might end up coming back here but it is starting to get a little bit busy I’m very conscious of live streaming in Japan when there are people around so lot of eye contact you know lot of smiles and not getting in anybody’s way one last look at the flowers we might may not get back to them we’ll just see cuz I love them wow just beautiful yeah so we’re entering the hot season here in Japan it’s not going to get any cooler for a while and I’m here so let’s head up let’s head up the escalator we get see how many views we can get as we go Osaka station 150 years of Art and Design shopping everywhere food everywhere it’s amazing it’s the quality of everything in Japan that’s so good these long escalators oh I can see animals in the window over there I see a can you see that a giraffe and some what are they other animals walking around so the building in front of us is Grand front Osaka so that’s another building that’s full of restaurants and shops and yeah different things yeah the flowers are just gorgeous so there we go there’s a big big water feature down there I’ll zoom in and we’ll see if you can just water running down yes see the water running down the steps so that’s a big water feature people are walking around paddling got their shoes off and having a walk around in the water which is great and here’s all the little ants below us I’m not sure what floor we’re on oh maybe seven thanks Joe thank you I know you know a lot of people say oh we only like to see New Zealand and um we’re not so interested in Japan or Korea or anywhere else you go we only like New Zealand and I understand that but hey this is my life so I’m sharing my life with you um it’s not just about where I happen to be living or it’s what I’m doing my daily life so I’m sure you can enjoy Japan as much as you enjoy New Zealand there’s our beautiful gardens there so let’s head up again I have not been up here um I have been to the top before but I’ve not been up here for a long time so I’m not sure what to expect when we get up here I know there used to be like a little farm on top oh look how big send me my it’s a long one [Music] love my [Music] goodies new gimbal’s working well Japan Wireless pocket wife is working well happy with everything ah yeah can’t wait to be there I’ll be there the beginning of August or end of July yeah I think I 28th of July I arrive in fuk Walker yeah no onima will be the next day it’s always sort of my first my first visit who good good good good oh you oh now I’m remembering yes nice we have a little rooftop garden here ah Hugo I’ve got some fabulous rooftop gardens to show you in Tokyo it’s a big new thing now so lots of eating spaces here lots and lots of eating places I’ve just had a br breakfast so I don’t need anything we have a look at the little garden here the top of the other buildings that’s a hotel hotel hku and yabashi and gr the top of grand front here oh GE fantastic yeah it’s I always think it’s good to see um another country through somebody else’s eyes you everybody shows different things isn’t this gorgeous look lovely rooftop garden Lenton little breeze Little Summer Breeze oh yes yeah yeah the old favorites isatan and ooi marui they used to be hard to find now they’re doing them every you know like most of the new buildings have all got nice rooftop gardens Penelope k k we’re on top of Osaka station now you’ll have to watch the beginning all the flowers so this is real grass here isn’t this beautiful I always want to go meow when I see you Penelope wow it’s really good we can go up again nice that was a long escalator we came up oh there’s always so much to see oh this will be lit up at night that is the sky building through there so it also has a nice can you see it’s sort of like well you can’t really see now cuz the trees in the way but yeah it’s sort of an N shaped building I guess cuz it’s got a big gap between each of the Wings and then there’s a um walkway over the top hey fabulous to see everybody yeah yep Osaka to Tokyo today actually I’m Osaka to shano Yokohama and then I just get the local train to haoi and I’ll be with the family tonight who knows what we’re doing tomorrow who knows but whatever we’re doing I’ll be taking you with me uh usually my first thing I do with I arrive in haoi is to go up to the Garden a little butterfly flew in there go up to the garden and show you the Community Gardens there that’s always nice another clock whoa we’re clock chasing today yes I’ll probably we’ll try I’ll try and go back down to the uh flowers depends what we get involved in with up here it’s a little escalator this time so traditionally in Osaka everybody stands on the right hand side but all of these people are standing on the left look at the sky it’s amazing I’ve actually put my I’ve only just traveling with a little suitcase and I’ve actually put it into a locker my hat is in my suitcase in the Locker gazino hoba Plaza North Gate Building look Art and Design all right look at that oh it’s moving in the [Laughter] wind and it’s hyd Ranger season of course Hy Rangers are beautiful in Japan we just don’t get the variety in New Zealand that they get here they’re incredible they have mini ones and ah all sorts of like two ton three- toned doubles singles triples big ones little ones you name it everything you can think of let me zoom in on some there’s a like water between me and them let’s zoom in and have a closeup oh watching on TV flowers must look amazing look see how the color just changes that one’s a lot deeper and then that one’s a lot paler then we’ve got the beautiful whites they’re like big fluffy balls and even look at those they’re frilly yeah amazing oh it’s yeah I think how do we get up there I know you can go up further not sure just how you get there oh I can see I think there’s some stairs look at the view oh yeah so there’s the sky building through there here we go Osaka’s going to be busy next year with the 2025 ex Expo being held here so it’s going to be really really busy another big green space over there and they’re putting like Osaka is not a green City compared to Tokyo but they are starting to do a lot more with public spaces and rooftops which is pretty cool nice oh they even got egg of penus whoa look at that Hy Ranger that is like wow this is a really really small plant but it’s got there it’s incredible really small plant with those big beautiful flowers I wonder if it’s been grown in a pot and been transplanted yes Joe absolutely so [Applause] clean nice little water feature here look like a little cafe in there oh might all be steers from here up but look at it oh I’m in the shade now it’s nice and cool oh yes this is the farm tinu no Farm light hiking course stairway access only I think we’ll give this a miss and head down to the flowers lur lurking on your TV yeah no it’s good you’re not putting any pressure on me at all which is great I don’t think I’ll do all those stairs I think I’d rather although I should I’d rather head down to back to the flowers stairs or flowers kids let me know stairs or flowers maybe a transplant yeah yeah first one and stairs or flowers up or down no comment uh I can show you what it’s like upstairs flowers Okay cool so yeah when you get up up there they have just planted a garden like this how flowers okay flowers it is we’ll go back down I might I might just even come up here when we finished and just have a look uh we’ll just see Garden map oh Garden map nice cool okay back to the flowers everybody loves a good flower all three yeah I know it is quite a hiking course to get up there and not so easy when you’re carrying a Gimbal and reading and looking and commenting and flowers will always win the day yes yeah yeah it’s a proper little farm it’s probably a lot more developed look at this purple and and gray plant it’s probably a lot more developed than when it was last when I was last there yeah stairs can actually be quite tricky when you’re carrying something like that well they’re quite tricky anyway I love this oh it’s really doing its tune for us now it’s quite clever cuz they don’t all move I see I see all the blue Hy Rangers up here wow oh we didn’t walk this bit this is what I love the blue and the red reminds me of the M we saw in Kyoto her beautiful kimono was the sky blue and this bright red we were so lucky to catch her and her friend they were actually doing a little photo op photo maybe it was for her portfolio because she was a very young M um and they were happy to step out and do all of that posing so just before we head down we’ve got all the blues here look at see this is what I mean about Hy Rangers in Japan look at the color they’re amazing it’s almost green Japanese music [Music] oh my gorgeous look oh and identified them all so there’s a bit of planning going on here oh and one on its own just fabulous so this goes on a little bit that’s ready ready welcome to Osaka station City this announcement is to inform you that we’ve introduced the earthquake early warning system if you hear or see the alert please be prepared for strong shaking and take measurements to protect yourself we hope you follow these instructions thank you it’s quite warning no not an earthquake now but just in case yeah we’ve had one one fairly good shake with were we Tokyo I think yeah yeah it’s amazing really really incredible look yeah they’re just beautiful I wonder if they get sunburnt they almost look like they do sometimes zooming in is better too close oops flower appreciation day that’s what it is flower appreciation day okay let’s head down so if you’re coming here this is where we are because I know H Hera Plaza and down who in the sky and there’s the farm up there we’ll go down to our paint tube so we’ve got about three escalators to go maybe so this is the 10th floor quite high like a station City don’t want to get lost 10th floor got having all these escalators gets a lot more people up here you can eat off the streets Absolutely I’ll tell you what there’s so much food everywhere it’s amazing every building look we’re all the way down whoa well that’s cool that’s good oh here’s here the flowers coming into view oh this is nice getting a view from here this is where we’re going to end up on that green space there the lawn the Great Lawn a great lawn oh so good that I put my suitcase in a lock even though it’s small just having to drag it around with me and hold the gimball at the same time would be quite difficult although I have done it before it can prove to be a little bit Troublesome it’s amazing structure so they have these big sort of like walkways that connect all the buildings now our little ants we’ve got a few more now one I think a lot of people come to Japan and they just go around and they see all the sites take all the boxes take all their pictures standing in front of famous sites and they never get remotely involved with the other side of Japan just to come and spend time like this is real Japan and often these are the moments that you remember moments of Discovery and people being so friendly and nice futuristic looking yeah lot of Japan looks futuristic although you know with the Olympic Games here in 1964 which is when the shenan Sim was first introduced all all school kids with their Red Hats on big kids so um a lot of people say Japan is futuristic but stuck in 1964 they’re like giant umbrellas these big overhead covers always remind me of umbrellas okay here we go the flowers come back to them so flower flower paint oh you would love to be a little dog here they most a lot of people wheel them around in uh strollers you don’t know whether it’s a baby or a dog inside the stroller so this is all part of Osaka Art and Design and they love shortcuts oad Osaka Art and Design yeah this is gorgeous this and this is the Japan I love you know it’s amazing oh let me just get a drink I’ve had a little bit of a cold all the air conditioning attacked me so I developed a bit of a cough which is not too bad it’s gone that’s good I always carry one of these with me it’s like a little thermos so I can put a hot or a cold drink in it little thermos they’re really really good in Japan so look at it bit of advertising zooo with me kids had it made for me it’s so creative J it’s incredible isn’t it [Laughter] isn’t it fabulous so that’s the red everybody doing their photos with it you know Instagram is a wonderful thing isn’t it everybody it’s probably proved to be the downfall in a lot of ways because now it’s so easy to find stuff but people sharing where they’re eating what they looking at what they’re seeing all the time is really really cool H it’s just the air conditioning I think and actually because I’ve been working really hard I think I got really tired and when I’m tired that’s what happens to me I’ll suddenly get a cough and a bit of a bit of a cold but it goes through me in about 24 hours I’m really really lucky so yesterday was a bit of a hard day because I was not feeling too good woke up this morning feeling great even better now with pain pots and P cans here’s all the yellow decided oh There She is again we’re following her around so decided that these ones right here are not real the ones that are coming out of the pots and not real but all of the others are and they’re just absolutely beautiful so these are all real if anybody needs a little bit of cheering up nothing like a bright yellow flow or five there’s our about you it was really good okay Osaka Railway Museum found a nice thingy whoops come on come back come back whoa since so so the rail May okay Railway Museum maybe since 1996 until present just looking down on the tracks and the trains one going there a lot of tracks and of course there’s an underground as well okay just back to the yellow flowers for a moment and then we’re going to finish that’s nice shot look a real Gardener real flowers and a really beautifully beautiful display little bit of a mixture of color here with pink oh me again it’s fantastic wow doing such a good job beautiful isn’t that good yeah yes water cuz it’s hot too beautiful isn’t it yeah anyway everybody I’m going to finish um and I’m going to have a wander up to the farm I’ll walk up to the farm I’ll
