Join Stephanie as she explores Tokyo and the tech that makes dining out easy and fun in the metropolis, even if you don’t speak Japanese!
The first stop is a super popular conveyor belt sushi restaurant chain where everything from seating, ordering and payment is done via tablet and other tech, eliminating the need to speak to anyone.
Then, while perusing the city, she uses technology to translate Japanese menus and signs, making her experience stress-free and chats with current tourists on the streets of Ueno about the tech they’ve used to make their meals smooth-sailing.
And lastly, who visits Japan and doesn’t have ramen? Well, Stephanie shows how simple it is to get a hot bowl of ramen with just a few buttons, via a ticket vending machine.
Whether you’re planning a trip to Japan or just curious about how technology is changing the dining experience, this video will show you that it’s easier than ever to get by as a tourist in Japan, without knowing Japanese!

if you have your big first food Adventure here in Japan but language barrier is one of your biggest fears well fear not my name is Stephanie I’m going to show you today how you can use technology to make your dining experience a little bit more smooth so before we get started make sure to subscribe and like the video and well now let’s go [Music] one of our first stops today is a chain restaurant that’s actually a revolving sushi train so it’s actually really popular with locals and I also love it myself it’s called kurushi it’s super affordable and also today we’re going to be checking out the flagship store and we’ll also be able to see how they integrate Tekken to make our dining experience much more easier so let’s go so you can actually find kurushi all over Japan but there are only three Flagship stores here in Tokyo in Harajuku in Sky Tree and in Asaka but what makes the flagship stor so different well we’re about to find out soon let’s go upstairs who oh how did you guys beat me all right first let’s get a table so we have this touchcreen panel that even though it’s in Japanese don’t worry we can choose a language and we can choose English so if you’re coming here for the first time I’d recommend just just registering for a new seat now and then just like that we click register well it it’s just me today but you know hopefully you guys get to come with more people and then all you need to do is just confirm and it’ll even tell you how long it will [Music] take just like that we go over there and we’ll wait to be called for our table so you can see that they’re calling my number 91 up here and here is where you’re going to press to collect your table ticket if you have any problems this screen over here will instruct you on exactly what you need to do so let’s go get our table number number two so let’s find our [Music] table and it looks like to order here we have a touch screen so even though it’s all Japanese at first guys choose language how handy English wait for a second and tada no stress when ordering anymore so I actually get the choice to play a game it seems and there are two options one pay to play or free to play but your girl is on a budget so you know she’s going to do a free to play okay so in the flagship store they do have special dishes that you can only get here so of course we got to try it out and one of them is this the eel Dragon Roll like what a wild name and it looks insane so of course we have to try it get it look at this Sushi set for 900 Yen for that plate of sushi we got to do it squid tempora Sushi I’ve never had this before in my life so I definitely want to try it out all right I think this is going to be a lot of food but I really want to get Tagle which is omelette like an egg omelette I think that should be enough dude guys so let’s wait for it to come I’m so excited I’ve been seeing all these plates just like zooming past can’t wait for ours to come good timing it’s ours all right let’s get it oh pressure what’s this okay I may have ordered too [Music] [Applause] much as you can see everything has arrived and my eyes are definitely bigger than my stomach but we’re not going to give up we’re going to try our best all right let’s eat the suy M I want to try this dragon eel roll which looks insane I’ve never seen anything like it it looks like there’s eel on top with some nice sauce with like crispy bits and then rolled up inside I have no idea what that is but we’re going to figure it out oh I’m shaking M I still don’t know what’s inside but whatever it is it’s good I love the textured bits on top nice nice and crispy so good okay I need to tackle this plate and slowly start picking away at it so I really want to try it with the original soy sauce so let’s try the tuna one as well get it they said just to add a little bit on top okay I think that’s enough looks so good I can’t believe this is so cheap w m I’m so even though it’s just regular tuna that’s so good such good quality all right it is time to tackle this big boy like this definitely has to be the biggest piece that we’ve ordered today and today we’re going to also try it with the sweet soy sauce so let’s try it on and we’re going to just douse it all in and get that goodness on [Music] top oh thick y oh I’m excited how do I even hold this oh my gosh this is definitely not a one biter no way I’ll probably do half right let’s get it [Music] m hands down this is my face it’s so crispy like crispy but Airy at the same time and the sauce just like adds a whole new level of sweetness to it [Music] oh which means my stomach is so full but now it’s time for another fun part of what makes CR Su so special is we get to play a game so every plate we get to insert into the slot and when we put five plates in we’re going to get like kind of like a magical ball that will say if whether or not we get to play the games out front now I really want to play one of the games out front so fingers crossed oh it’s happening oh it’s so cute oh he seems a little distracted did we win we won we really won what we won that’s actually Super Lucky guys but what’s inside come there I need to go to the gym more oh guys what is this what it looks like we get to win we like w one of the games I think it’s like one of the the shooting games over before so this is Super Lucky it’s time to go so let’s check out and it’s super easy to check out because on our friendly and handy touch pad here there’s a check out Buton W make sure we put all our plates away which we have and then press complete so we have our bar coat here all we need to do is bring this up to the front and then pay all right let’s go Okay so we’ve made it at the self checkout counter and it’s super easy it’s even in English all you need to do is scan your table code so let’s go and we want to pay by cash credit or barcode let’s do cash and then we can put our 2,000 y right in here all right let’s go to the next place what wait oh I forgot about the game oh we have to play the game this is so [Music] cool I’m really nervous okay oh I got yeah it’s heavy oh this is way heavier than I thought I want to aim for the top thing that looks like Jenga so fingers crossed oh gosh how do I how do I how do I scared myself I got the I did it that was so tough all right now I can go so we have arrived at ano station and we’re going to explore am Yoko there’s actually a video on by Foods YouTube with sha explaining everything about here but today we’re going to try out some translation apps to see how Tech can help us with our eating Journey since we’re in a really popular area in Tokyo and there’s so much food to enjoy I want to ask people you know what kind of food they’ve been liking since they’ve gotten to Japan and also you know how technology has really helped their trip as well so let’s go find some people hello [Music] people my name is Stephanie nice to meet you my name is Richie nice to meet you Richie how long have you been in Japan oh about four or 5 days oh so just pretty fresh only 4 days only 4 days is it your first time I’m a second year undergraduate student here in Japan oh really I just arrived earlier so I’m very jet L yeah jet L it’s my first time oh your first time EXC welcome one of my my dreams so I’m so happy to be here 5 days four five days since being in Japan like what kind of food have you enjoyed uh we had the Kobe beef oh nice we had some shrimp cracker things oh yeah we we went toak con and ate some uh black egg the one that adds like seven years to your life I I guess I don’t know what it is yeah I I can’t read have this stuff but well it definitely lives up to his hype it’s everywhere and I’ll be honest it’s a little hard to find something to pick something oh why is that there’s way too many options for us I had some sushi yum um very very cheap and very delicious I had one matcha so to drink and few minutes ago Ramen oh Ramen so good yeah so yummy for sure the sushi and I think um we ended up finding like Ramen Street which was kind of like fun do you use technology to help yourself get around yes my wife has a little Google app and she just pops it next to thing and it translates everything that’s on the package and everything uh if if messenger counts when I message him and I ask him hey translate this but uh personally I just use Google Translate really Google Translate is so useful right do you usually like type in what you want to say or do you use the camera yeah I use the camera cuz I do not know what I’m typing honestly lens has been super useful for menus and then yeah you you’ve used like the actual like translation though a couple times but mostly the lens yeah and then how do you find like Japanese people respond to it they love it they love it yeah they love it I think they’re very appreciative that we’re actually just like trying oh yeah they they appreciate any effort right yes yeah had Google translate try to make complete sentences so I’m not just like food which one like what do you recommend you know full sentences oh you’re so you’re trying to speak like full right oh that’s pretty good no actually my hands like that please that and also English um so most of the people can understand English or they don’t speak very well English sometimes but we can understand so food is a International Language I guess I agree so a lot of people have been mentioning that they use Google Translate but specifically the lens function so I want to see what we can find in here where we can translate using the lens function so I saw these bikes over here and it’s really suspicious because I think the sign says no bikes but there are bikes but let’s check what the sign says well that’s strange it says bicycle parking prohibited abandoned bikes will be removed so I guess they’re not supposed to be there what oh what stamina and po Moon drugs what does that mean what what is this there’s like that is the only English on here okay you know what we should do we should try Google Translate to see if I can understand what is going on here cuz looks like they’re selling pills and liquid what okay let’s give it a shot oh okay you guys want to check this out basically it says drinking set to prevent hangovers so I I think this like liquid and this set and tablet help you drink SI alcohol comfortably I guess this is an area famous for isaka so definitely not I mean I guess it’s stamina and warmer so let’s keep going so we’re at our last stop of the day near UA session at aimachi station right here we’re going to try one of my most trusted places to go when you’re afraid of the language barrier so ramen shops in Japan actually almost always have ticket machine so basically you just press buttons and then a ticket comes out and you can order through that and give it to the chef so we’re at hak tonu Ramen Ichiban to try their unique Ramen here let’s check it out how cute and crazy all right I guess this is the famous ticket machine and as you can see it looks a little intimidating because there is a lot of Japanese so what I would recommend is to use the Google translate lens app and then take a photo and then you can translate it but this place is so nice and considerate they’ve actually done it already for us so we can see that all of the menu is here with photos so you can really understand what you’re going to get and it correlates with the buttons on the ticket machine so let’s have a look at this menu everything looks so delicious I think today I’m going to get this one it looks like the recommended one so let’s get it so all you need to do is get your trusty money and put it in so let’s go for it this one just double checking yeah looks right and we’ve got our ticket so nice and easy let’s get our food oh how handy there’s an order sheet basically asking us for our preferences on how we like our ramen so we can really customize it to our taste bud so let’s see what should we get today so we can Mark a circle as your preference so richness of flavor I think I’ll get the recommended normal amount also I have to mark how much vegetables I also want so we can get 100 G 200 300 or 400 H I am quite hungry so let’s get 400 G yum okay fantastic thank you so much okay I think he said to wait I’m waiting I’m hungry it’s so big what have I done it is massive okay maybe the large was too large but no waste we’re going to eat it all I noticed that they had all these signs here so I wanted to try the Google Lens to see what they say because there’s no translation for this one so let’s check it out first take photos quickly so the noodles don’t stretch so I guess it means make sure the noodles don’t get foggy and take your photos quickly after it arrives and then remove the vegetables from the plate and then you can eat the noodles so we need to uncover it and then it says the vegetable are coated with a bean paste so eat them as they are or add them to the soup oh so add the soup like when you add it to the soup it’ll get more rich I see so now I know how I can enjoy Spen the best way possible oh super useful all right let’s dig in but I think I need to roll up my sleeves cuz this is going to be a mission oh my gosh okay W it smells so fragrant guys oh and the noodles look so delicate okay I can feel the firmness of the [Music] noodles so like they’re so thin and so firm but the breath is so rich and a little bit of kick in the spice so good now let’s try this the broth on its own ooh that looks like good broth oh I love hak style Ramen and this is top TI you guys have to try this all right I really want to try this chashu which is basically por look at that I’m just going to have a little bit of a nibble before I add it to my Ramen m M that is so salty I did not expect that at all it’s nice and salty full flavor and then the inside is like super soft and then the little fatty bits is a little like stringy but oh that’s really good I can’t wait to soak that in this broth let’s go [Music] yum m the broth is so good it adds like the richness to [Music] it that’s delicious let’s get the veggies in yes I can’t believe I got 400 G what was I thinking yes get in there [Music] W where does it stop oh these noodles are so long [Music] m w it’s so rich but not too heavy as well and I love that the beans Sprouts add a little bit of crunch to it oh this is so good okay I finished the ramen all 400 G of the veggies as well I can roll down my sleeves I’m so full but that’s it for this place so it was actually really easy to order you know I really like that they had the different translations already for us and all I had to do was just press a button and then give it to somebody and then my food came so it’s super easy and super convenient you guys got to try it all right guys that’s it for the video I am absolutely stuffed I have a little bit of a food baby here I hope you guys learn a little bit about how to use Tech on your trip to Japan so that it’s not so intimidating or not so frightening to come and order at these restaurants and learned a few things if you guys have any other tips on using Tech in Japan while going on food Adventures make sure to comment them down below and share them with each other and if you found today’s tips helpful let us know as well all right guys that’s it that Ramen absolutely stopped me and I’m ready to go home and take a fat nap so that’s it for the video and then I hope to see you guys in the next one bye [Music]

Another great video. Stephanie is doing a great job and I'm looking forward to seeing more of her. Since both hosts seem pretty fashionable, maybe have an episode showing some fashion trends in Japan? I know, this is a food and travel channel, but it could be fun. Anyway, keep up the good work! ✌🏿
Translation don't work when the menu is up side down format.
Why in the world would you add an Australian who doesn’t speak or read any Japanese to be a hostess on this program? Yes, she’s pretty ( except for the spooky nails). But not a good choice at all.
Her nails are pretty and longer than my lifespan.
Love the new host, although she is no Shizuka Anderson. Ha! Keep on keeping on and well done. Looking forward to the next video!
Woah, those nails are impressive.
🇧🇩 🤍🤍🤍
Great vid guys! Tip when visiting Ramen shop with vending machine ticket and no pic/English, always pic the top left one as thats usually the shop's recommended dish. 😊
The presenter Stephanie has the most delightful energy! I would watch almost anything she's in.
Not intresded what a aussie has to say
Do you guys know if they have tamari sauce for us coeliacs? There are so many places I want to try but unfortunately I can't eat gluten.
I have a Kura Sushi in Garden Grove California as well. Strangely it looks like the same as in Japan
AMAZING EPISODE 😊 Please like this comment if you want me to be a host for this show
I really love this channe, even I live in Canada as Japanse for about 20years, or may be that's why though lol. it's so fun to going back to japan for food, for shopping and to do or visit any country side. anythings cheap now so bettrer visit now or soon if you have not visited.
But please do not disturb local comunity in country side. It's getting worse & worse. like visiting Lawson where ppl can se mt Fuji. or make initial mark on bamboo trees in Kyoto's Arashiyama. pls take a bit of time to learn for things like what we can do and what we shouldn't do in Japan. if who knows most of them, Japanese will wellcome you guys to come.
Stephanie is kind and sweet, meanwhile her nails are killer weapons
Congratulations on your food baby 😅
careful with the nails lol. nice vid though, its helpful! thanks
Stephanie looking lovely and cool black nails too!
Stephanie's a hottie but those nails are terrifying!
