Okinawa is certainly one of Japan’s most beautiful prefectures with some stunning natural scenery as well as bustling hubs of energy and excitement like the rest of the country – but a little more laid back for sure.
The island is also home to 32 US military facilities and more than 30,000 hard working US service men and women and their families call Okinawa home.
It is not unusual to find yourself in what you may think is a remote or quiet part of this beautiful island and be reminded of the large US military presence that has been here since World War II.
This short is not a political piece of any kind – I have love and admiration for both nations involved – but just my own commentary on a regular occurrence I noticed while being a visitor to this beautiful part of the world.
