about 125 for Australian dollars per ticket Nagano is much smaller than Tokyo its population is about 370,000 people the city is mostly known for having the 1998 Winter Olympic Games we have a couple [Music] yes it’s 1.8 km from the bus stop to the monkey Park entrance but it’s an easy pleasant walk we also saw some monkeys along the way cool 800 year snow monkeys are native to Japan they are called snow monkeys because they are able to live in a cold climate in areas where snow covers the ground for months monkey Park was established in 196 4 thanks to the efforts of a local man whose name is soo Hara in the early 1960s many ski resorts were built in the area destroying the forest where the monkeys lived the monkeys started migrating from the mountains to The Valleys where the Farms were located the farmers were given permission to kill the monkeys if the monkeys were destroying their crops in order to save the monkeys Saga Hara left food for the monkeys high in the mountains in a place near the hot spring that’s how the monkeys discovered the hot springs bathing monkeys was an unusual site to see and it attracted attention of the people and that’s how the park was established today it’s the only place in the world where you can see monkeys bathe in Hot Springs if you want to see the monkeys bathing in the pool you best bet is to come in the winter time we prefer traveling in the warmer months oh [Music] [Music] [Music] we both noticed there there’s not many rubbish pins about but yet everywhere is clean it is so clean around here it’s amazing I don’t
