She then indulges in an array of traditional homemade foods beautifully laid out in a homemade bento box, enjoying the authentic flavors that define Fukuoka’s culinary heritage. The experience concludes with a serene tea ceremony, where she tries the delicate art of preparing and enjoying matcha, paired with the exquisite sweetness of 100-year-old wagashi.

you’ve likely heard of Hakata City fuka prefecture before especially known for its famous Hakata raen but today I’m back to give you a different look at the city something hyper local that’ll give you a glimpse into hak’s traditional culture its people and of course its delicious local [Music] Cuisine before we go don’t forget to subscribe for more Japan adventures and stay tuned for special giveaway all right let’s [Music] go today I’m starting out at the Hakata machia Folk Museum a place that introduces traditional Hakata culture and history right in the heart of the city but first I’m going to be getting a little bit of a transformation into something a bit more traditional so follow me [Music] [Music] W look at this you oh my gosh I did not expect a second floor view in a [Music] machia oh there’s so many kimono to choose from okay I’m going to look through the kimon no and then get ready [Music] here we are this is the finished look I love the color so much and the Obie in the back really beautiful I feel kind of like a Japanese Princess um honestly as you can see it really is kind of a two-person job to put it on there’s so many layers but it is a really really fun experience to put on if you’re ever in this kind of traditional area in Japan so I’m going to enjoy my kimono by walking around the town definitely something to try so let’s go take a look [Music] look sandy beaches palm trees classic [Laughter] Japan this is katori shopping arcade or katori in Japanese and it is hak’s oldest shopping street with over over 100 Years of history and over 130 shops lining the street I think it has a wonderful retro atmosphere it’s a really great place to visit if you want to see where locals come to shop look we came here for hak last time and it’s actually located right here on kadori [Music] Shai I have arrived now at a traditional Japanese sweet or wagashi shop called suzukake this shop has over A Century Of History and its first generation founder was said to have been a master of Japanese confectionary and that Legacy is still carried on today so I cannot wait to try their traditional wagashi suets let’s go inside he I have my Japanese suite and I know just the perfect place to enjoy them so I’m going to head over there and let’s eat our wagashi let’s [Music] go Hakata offers so much local and traditional culture but today we’re be meeting a Hakata native who is passionate about the traditional arts and she has made it her life’s work to revive ize it and make it more easily accessible for everyone so let’s go inside and meet our host [Music] what a beautiful room this is [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] hi [Music] [Music] what a wonderful traditional game honestly it’s very fun as the Rhythm speeds up I think I get a little better with some more practice but for now this is probably as good as I’m going to [Music] get I am in the dining room now on the first floor and Kat is preparing for me a traditional Japanese bento box for lunch using local Hakata Cuisine so I’m really excited to see what that’s going to be [Music] wow so now it’s time to dig in and enjoy this wonderful local Cuisine that K has prepared for me let’s start with this and it’s got which is a spicy cadro that Hakata is really famous for M that is jam-packed with flavor not only is the egg really fluffy it actually has so much spicy men Tao inside let’s try some of the other local foods that I’ve actually not tried before this one the C I actually had not heard of that until katakan mentioned it to me and it’s made out of seaweed completely that’s actually not what I was expecting it’s kind of got a little bit of a jiggly texture but what gives it the flavor is the sesame seeds and also I think some Bonito flakes which really add this wonderful Umami flavor which I love next I want to try the saot apparently this is a Cuisine that was only really found in Fula back in the day because you couldn’t get the fresh Sashimi elsewhere in Japan M that is really good very rich flavor and the meat of the fish the Sashimi is so tender and it’s been marinating in a slightly salty maybe soy sauce and that accent of the sesame seeds just brings all that Aroma out okay now let’s try this dish it looks so good it’s basically a ground up fish cake M that is full of flavor the texture is very pleasant you get this light fish taste to it and the outside has this really flavorful skin so let’s let’s try the ozoni this is traditionally a soup that’s eaten during the New Year’s holiday wow that really warms you up it’s got this very delicate flavor of bito Flakes and also you can taste some of the Umami from mushroom as [Music] well so go she so this let’s give it a try [Music] M that is actually a lot sweeter than I expected it to be but in a really good way it tastes kind of like a dessert to me all right let’s give it a try the wagashi that I just purchased earlier at the 100-year-old wagashi shop M that’s so good it is made of red bean paste which is something that is very common in a lot of Japanese sweets but this time you can actually taste a mix of the smooth red bean paste and the actual whole red beans themselves all right so we are already have the matcha powder inside it should be about 1 and 1/2 spoonfuls but I’m going to pour in some water let’s give it a try I’m going to whisk quickly spin it and pull it straight up all right let’s give it a try and see if I did a good job and see if it turns kind of creamy and [Music] smooth oh it’s actually it tastes really smooth and it has kind of like a very gentle sweetness [Music] well that was my traditional experience in Hakata today and I have to say I think this is probably the most peaceful experience I’ve had in Fukuoka so far it was very different from the Hakata nightlife scene which you can also enjoy but during the day I think this is a really really cool experience to try and I should mention that this is a tour so there will be a an english- speaking tour guide and uh an English translator here for you to show you exactly how it’s done and explain everything for you so you don’t miss out on anything but it’s an even luckier day for one of you viewers because we’re doing a giveaway for a free spot in this very experience so if you’d like to join this experience for free then please type down the comments below
