Thank you for watching and Happy New Year 2016!
hey everyone its mark Wiens with migration ology calm and eating Thai food calm it has been an amazing year of food and I want to say a big thank you for your support and for watching our videos throughout this year I have had a chance to think back about to reflect upon the food that I ate this year and all of the videos we published and some blog posts as well and it was not an easy task but I came up with the 11 best meals foods that I ate in 2015 so keep watching this video for the end-of-the-year recap on delicious food in 2015 we arrived to the beef noodle restaurant and this place is extremely famous but luckily we got here early so it’s not that busy we got your right as they open the restaurant sort of occupies a couple of different rooms right along this sidewalk and they seated us in kind of just uh this is just a little room on the side of the road and it sort of feels like a shed so these are the pea slices of beef and then I got half tendon and then below our noodles and then it’s just sprinkled with a big handful of green onions and yeah I got to try it first with nothing in it just this straight rock oh I can definitely taste a little bit of a cinnamon flavor and those Chinese herbs and medicinal properties oh oh that’s a thick slice of beef I didn’t realize that I thought it was thinner oh ho ho okay okay never mind I’m gonna try the beef first I’ll just look at that okay Oh I was not expecting it to be that tender oh that’s like effortless chewy yeah you do not need teeth to eat that beef it’s so soft this street food style is called yum yum boom bang on pool and bam who is this area and then Tom Yum Goong is of course the famous Thai soup with shrimp and this is ridiculous it almost looks like it almost looks like an egg but all of that all of that goofy oily goodness is coming from the shrimp there are chilies in here there are kaffir lime leaves there are chunks of lemongrass there mushrooms in here this looks unbelievably good look at the thickness of this broth okay I just got to take a spoon of it Oh well that is beautiful oh that has like a buttery component to it it’s sour it’s spicy I can taste like the sourness from those chilies as well they’re the kind of like chillies that have kind of a spicy sour flavor to them and then that buttery oily livered goodness from the from the prawns is ridiculously creamy and rich oh man that’s that’s wonderful this is one of the most spectacular buffets I have seen in a long time so you get a plate you dish yourself out rice and I am about to hit this buffet and pile things onto my plate I think this is a little pompano type of fish okay this guy has to go on this restaurant is called cut yin nasi campur and I just got my plate of food it is a an almost unbelievable buffet line I have no choice but to begin with it’s called Brunel the sea cucumber dish and just look at these oh it actually feels I thought it was going to be like squishy but it’s very it’s kind of firm actually okay and I got it go and reach in with my fingers you oh that is awesome it’s actually quite firm almost like squid or kind of like a snail revolving my plate I’m going to move over to try the fish break off a piece of his side my rice is so far below there I am in Singapore and I am at Sammy’s restaurant to eat fish head curry and South Indian food so this is a white snapper head I think that’s eggplant there is all sorts of goodies in here just look at how much meat is on this fish well that is that is a steak this is going to be messy and beautiful I already know okay oh look at that meat again put this onto my rice well maybe add a bit more sauce to that okay well that is so hot all but that I can feel that fish is just flaky and I’m super moist okay that just melted in my mouth and then the sauce it is a little bit sour I can really taste the blend of spices that especially that Jeeva in there it’s just maybe just a tiny bit spicy not really spicy but just a really nice curry blend flavor I don’t know if I’ve ever seen so much food in one place as this buffet they literally have everything you can imagine from sushi to bread to an entire cheese room and an entire chocolate room to the Asian and Filipino section there’s Thai food there’s roast duck and chicken there’s an Indian station it’s it’s just ridiculous all you can eat oysters well that’s ridiculously good oh it’s just so smooth and silky soft and just disintegrates on my tongue for my second plate I decided to build Filipino this is a dish he said is stingray with coconut milk it tastes like shredded chicken and then with that chili that’s wonderful oh that’s so good and the other interesting thing they have her is adobo but this is not pork or chicken adobo this is crocodile adobo which is very attractive that is incredibly tender crocodile kind of a cross between fish and meat and that’s awesome it is about 5:00 p.m. and there is not too long of a line but there are at least 20 or 30 people out here waiting in line for sushi at this restaurant new title gotta gotta go so we got a table on the first floor in the back and just ordered my sushi waiting for Thor to arrive but it’s going to be good for sure gotta start with a bite of that uni because it just looks like it looks like melted butter okay it is so creamy and so smooth with just a little bit of a seafoody flavor Glen all that’s fantastic and then it’s paired with a slice of cucumber in there as well giving it a fresh crunch at the same time it’s tuna belly time and just look at these slabs of tunability and I saw some other people eating what they did was they took the piece of fish and they dipped it in the soy sauce and then put it back on the rice so I think that might that method might work really well but just look at that ratio of fish to rice that is a beautiful thing it just it’s just completely encases the rice I don’t even longer to that’s disintegrating on my tongue one of the most popular foods in Penang and actually throughout Malaysia is called nasi kandar and that nasi means rice and con dar is actually the from what I’ve read is the pole that you carry things on kind of like a carrying basket and so nasi kandar actually means rice with the carrying basket but this type of food in reality it refers to Indian style Malaysian food something I can never resist ordering is mutton curry Bowl that is a whole chunk of mutton no bone and then that just looked and just look at the richness and like thickness of that curry sauce it’s going to put some of that mutton on to my my rice to get started and let me actually yeah let me just start with that actually Oh oh that is that’s unbelievably good that mutton is tender and then that curry sauce Wow it is it is actually a little bit spicy just incredibly creamy and rich and just packed full of spice the food was so good that I can barely even like gather my thoughts to explain just how good the flavors were the atmosphere the service the and just the taste of the food I am I’m stuttering right now I love everything about this restaurant already you come inside it is very home feeling on it it is someone’s home all of the food has just arrived it all looks amazing and we’re hungry so sitting down with math to devour a meal this is all really typical Bhutanese food yes okay I got to taste that dot C first and I can say that it will be my first time to ever have dot C mmm that tastes like like chili cheese dip but with rice and with mushrooms in it all that’s so rich and creamy okay I’m going in for that piece of tripe and I may as well have that entire chili Oh what I immediately taste it in there it’s a 6-1 pepper an earthy like citrusy component to it this place is called Sai and it is one of my ultimate favorite restaurants in Bangkok we ordered a dish that I’ve never tried so far here at Sai and it just arrived I called podium pan karate which is soft-shell crab in a yellow egg Thai curry and it just arrived I think this is probably the most beautiful version that I’ve ever seen in my life and I know I say that a lot but this is really true um just look all my goodness that is unbelievable that is truly a stunning dish the yellow curry powder is really flavorful and then it is very rich but it doesn’t seem oily like it sometimes can be then the soft-shell crab gets you just chew right through those shells just has a little bit of a crunch to it and then with all those fresh diced up Chile’s in there you can also really taste the green onions in there that is magnificent that is absolutely a stunning dish they just brought out a plate a platter of different cuts of beef and this one here is one of the rarest pieces you can only get two or three kilograms out of a single cow and just look at that marbleization so for our first bites of the beef it is recommended that we start with the filet mignon and you can just hear that incredible sizzle as soon as it touched the grill this is my first strip of beef in Kobe Japan the source of the most outstanding beef in the entire world and just look at that strip look at that look at that oil wicked oh oh okay I can’t even like shaking I’m actually I’m actually shaking in anticipation of this first bite and literally I’m almost I’m almost drooling on my t-shirt I actually just let my gums like slide together and it sliced another piece of you it is now time to sample what is one of the specialties at this restaurant which is a dry-aged beef you can definitely tell it’s a little drier than what we just ate but the flavor is supposed to be more intense this is the dessert on top of the dessert oh I can smell that well that is absurd it’s definitely drier on the edges but in the inside it’s still juicy and yet definitely has a little bit of a cheesy flavor to it from that dry aged process the depth of flavor in that beef is almost unbelievable I am in Hong Kong kind of in the countryside a little bit and I’m at a restaurant called dude get along which is a place that serves traditional dim sum young chop all of the dim sum dishes are just all self served so you just walk around you see what has come off the steamers and what looks good what everything looks good and you just kind of grab whatever you want this is also one of their signature given some dishes and it is steamed tripe it looks like there are some carrots in here and I don’t know what else I’m going to try a piece of this tripe right now the texture is actually very soft just a little bit chewy and a little bit kind of spongy always one of my favorite dim sum dishes is called lo Mai gai which is the glutinous rice steamed in a lotus leaf let me unwrap by the package and just look at that listening glutinous rice in the middle oh and you can just smell that aroma it almost has a smell that almost smells like tea Oh let’s pick tacular this one also is another favorite of mine taro deep-fried and I think it should include some minced pork in the middle but we’ll see so let me try a piece of the barbecue pork first actually under grab one of these and just look at the beauty of that red barbecue toss you that has a wonderful flavor and a texture that has some real pig taste to it it really tastes like a country pig actually this has been an immensely marvelous yum cha meal and I am yeah I am quite satisfied and quite stuck it is so good and I’m just washing everything down with ki now just just sipping on hot tea I this is just fantastic just fantastic we’ve come to the end of this video all 11 restaurants and foods that I ate my favorites of the entire year I’d love to hear from you in the comments section below about your favorite meal this year or your favorite video of this year and Mark and Ying ,next time you go to the Philippines you must try the southern Mindanao foods, Sulu foods in particular, especially the Tiula Sug (black soup) and other spicy food that is only found in Sulu and Tawitawi. But it’s not advisable to go to those places it’s not safe. The Sulu native food, are available in Manila and can be prepared by a Tausug person
