Hey everyone, and welcome back to my solo travel adventure through the incredible land of Japan! This trip was all about experiencing the diversity this country has to offer, from the serene beauty of Hokkaido to the dazzling energy of Tokyo.

Bullet Train Bliss: Shinkansen to Tokyo

Next, I hopped on the legendary Shinkansen bullet train. The smooth, high-speed ride was an experience in itself, offering a glimpse of the Japanese countryside whizzing by.

Shibuya Crossing: A Dizzying Dance of Light

Arriving in the heart of Tokyo, I was immediately captivated by the city’s electric vibe. First up is the world famous Shibuya Scramble Crossing & The sheer volume of people crossing in all directions was mesmerizing, a human kaleidoscope under the neon glow. While there, I just had to visit the Hachiko Statue. This Akita dog would journey to Shibuya Station to wait for his owner to arrive back from his daily commute. One day his owner did not return from work, having suffered a fatal cerebral hemorrhage. This did not deter Hachiko though, who returned to the same spot to wait for his owner every day for the next nine years. After a quick bus ride later, I’m on the hunt for a new landmark to conquer.

Conquering the Tokyo Tower:

No trip to Tokyo is complete without visiting the iconic Tokyo Tower. I opted for the stairs, the climb offering stunning panoramic views as I ascended and believe me this task was incredibly challenging and the climb ended It just as equally rewarding. Reaching the top, the sprawling cityscape unfolded before me, a sea of glittering skyscrapers bathed in the golden light of the setting sun.

Skytree’s Soaring Majesty:

The next day my Tokyo adventure culminated atop the magnificent Tokyo Skytree. From the observation deck, the entire city stretched out beneath me like a miniature world. It was a breathtaking moment, a perfect capstone to my solo exploration of this incredible metropolis.

As night fell, I was overwhelmed and I captivated by the energy at the Sensoji is the oldest temple in Tokyo, boasting over 1300 years of history. Located in the popular sightseeing area of Asakusa, this temple is especially famous for its large red lantern hanging at the entrance gate called Kaminarimon.

Traveling by subway, I made a special visit to maid cafe for a tasty treat in Akihabara to Maidreamin. A Maid Café, is one of the many popular theme cafes in Japan. It is lighthearted fun in colorful designed rooms with a funky disco feel. When a girl isn’t singing and dancing on stage, they chat with the guests, inviting them into their little dream-like world for a special dining experience. I loved the maid outfits and the sweet treats that they had to offer. (*Wink, Wink!!)

Later that afternoon, I went to visit the second largest tower in the world, Tokyo Skytree. As the sun was setting, I got a glimpse of the spectacular city from the observation deck.

The finale was that next day, I was able to attend the Grand Sumo Tournament at the Ryōgoku Kokugikan (Japanese: 両国国技館, lit. “Ryōgoku National Sports Hall”), also known as Ryōgoku Sumo Hall or Kokugikan Arena. Throughout my travels, I also relished the chance to experience Japanese culture firsthand. This was one of the most incredible sporting events that I have had the pleasure of witnessing in real life, and I gotta tell you it’s pretty freakin awesome. That includes the Bow twirling ceramony that concluded the tournament events for the day.

A Solo Success:
Traveling solo in Japan was an enriching and empowering experience. I embraced the freedom to explore at my own pace, forging new connections and unforgettable memories along the way. If you’re considering a solo trip to Japan, I wholeheartedly recommend it! The country is incredibly safe and welcoming for solo travelers. So, pack your bags, embrace the adventure, and get ready to be amazed by the Land of the Rising Sun!
