Video from a two day trip I took to Fukuoka, Japan in January 2007.
I was able to visit the Nexus Housing project (completed 1991) to see Steven Holl’s “Void/Hinged Space” housing project and examine the details first hand.

I don’t know how successful the project was commercially or how satisfied the residents were, but architecturally speaking, it was amazing. I can’t recall any other modern commercial building that had that level of detail in its craftmanship.

  1. nice video, but i am disappointed that you didnt go inside and video an apartment, i would have loved to see how the sliding screens worked!

  2. @parisgala88 I wish, but unless I knew someone that resided there, there was no way I could've gone inside a private residence. Besides, I'm sure the interior space has changed significantly since it's completion.

  3. i dont think they would have changed alot inside, since steven holl designed the appartments to be flexible, so you can change the no of rooms you want or open all the slides to have one big space. it was a really successful project 🙂

  4. Great Video!
