Manila’s “Most Dangerous Slum” is NOT What You Think
In today’s video I visit an area of Tondo, Manila called Happyland. This area has a reputation of being one of the most dangerous areas in Manila, Philippines, so I decided to see what this area of Manila, Philippines was really like. Tondo, Manila was not what I expected.

friend my friends uh they’re they’re not my friends are not here now yeah I go now I’m going now yeah nice to meet you have a good day good all right see you many videos focus on the difficulties of life here in Happyland tondo Manila so instead I chose to focus on the positives highlighting the resiliency and positivity of the locals here in Happyland showing that most of the residents here are good people and deserve more than the reputation of just being the dangerous slum in Manila I was met with the same friendliness and smiles that I see everywhere in the Philippines there is no denying the difficulties that the locals do face but I have nothing but respect for someone who works long hours working a difficult job doing anything necessary in order to provide for their family and to survive the perfect example is AE Evelyn the woman who runs the POG poog shop the POG poog is the meal made from the garbage she takes pride in being able to feed her community an affordable meal every day I think most of us would agree that it’s heartbreaking that this meal even has to exist but it does exist and it’s existed long before Evelyn began making it many of the locals eat it every day and seem to love it I will say this is the one part of the video where I’m not sure if I did the right thing when I bought the packpack for the kids my train of thought at the time was that they’re eating it anyway and if I’m buying it for them then their parents don’t have to buy that meal but after I left Hondo I questioned whether or not I provided safe food for them honestly I I still don’t know the answer to that question and I’m not sure if that was the right thing to do luckily Evelyn does everything she can to ensure that it’s as safe as possible to eat and adds her own recipe to make sure that it tastes good her story really is an inspiring one and you see this throughout Happyland I see resourcefulness and resiliency so hopefully you can also take something positive from this video and maybe it’s changed your opinion on Happy Land Tonda Manila and as I am based here in the Philippines if you guys know a great organization here helping a local community I’d love to hear about it so please get in contact with me and let me know about it thank you for watching and I’ll see you in the next one

kipay is *ussy in english you donโt want to repeat that in the vlogโฆthat is where you want to switch your pack to the front.
Yeah you right – probably should have bought them something else
With 7 dogs??๐ I donโt think they have ever eaten any dog foods at all, theyโre being fed with leftovers table food if thereโs no leftovers dogs have to hunt some food from the trash ๐ฎitโs sad because if the people gets really hungry and in that case they see those pets are eating (dog) meat
Be careful most dogs in the Philippines had never had vaccines for rabies donโt get bitten ๐ฎ
Thank you for giving them ice cream sir
Why donโt you carry a towel to wipe your sweat?
Hey I didnโt see you eat it ๐John
Itโs ok sir they wash and cook it wellโฆ
Nice! It was great to show the other side of the country to the world. It does exist. Good job!
Why are you doing poverty porn now? I have subscribed and followed you from the beginning showcasing the best our country can bring. This video is the lowest of the low. You are no different now from other foreign bloggers whose audience delights in showcasing the suffering of others. Why not just feature homeless Americans? You will probably get more clicks.
The respect you showed for the Filipinos since I saw your first video, made me subscribe to your channel. Todayโs video was special, thereโs a lot to discuss and learn about but I just want to say thank you for sharing. Amping.
I just arrived in Manila for work from Canada. I should visit those areas too. The heat is overwhelming but people are very friendly over here
โคโคโค thanks for your generosity Jonathan take care ๐
that was overwhelming to be swarmed by people especially the kids. hoping that you did not get annoyed as they are just trying to welcome you. but you did a great job taking the courage to visit this place though.
Don't feel bad for buying the pagpag. Those kids got a meal. It's not your fault for the situation.
Well done Jonathan. You went in there with the right attitude (the one we should all have) – with an open mind and an open heart, and most importantly perhaps, you went in at their level, not as someone supposedly 'above' them, someone who looks and judges and then leaves. You were accepted because you accepted them. Kindness, humility and gratitude are in short supply in many people, in you they overflow. God bless you.
Careful, alot of pick pockets and robbers in philippine streets
Jonathan, You could be the Pipe Piper of Hamilton. If You know the story. ๐
You should check out the Manila-American cemetery since you're American. It's a beautiful stunning historical site.
great video !
Oh man I love Philippines eventhough I havent visited yet. Traveling on my own for first time and first time in asia in july, from Sweden.
Staying in Cebu and southern Leyte. And maybe visiting Bohol also.
Excited visiting my girl for first time ๐
Lots of first time, both excited and nervous at same time lol
Keep up with the awesome content ๐
No shirts in this country๐๐
in france we do supermarket trashes too, its very common and i guess in many countries in the world rich or poor.
Every where you go is anarchy. Fun and lighthearted, but anarchy. The best type of life to live. ๐ป
I have watched many Filipino videos, and in this video I have seen something that I have not seen before. (A FILIPINO turning down rice, Free rice to beat it all.) ๐
Johnathan you put smiles on these beautiful children's faces.. God bless you brother..

Pagpag Republic!
backward society and a 3rd world country.
what a shame! the Lord Jezus Christ is very disappointed by now…
Yours is the first YouTube video that included insightful empathetic commentary on pagpag. I was really touched how conflicted you were about buying pagpag for people who asked you to buy it for them.
I'm thinking "this might have been shot sometime ago and you are just issuing it now". Honestly, I have read the comments and I agree that these are just poor people trying to make a living and they are not dangerous. But we all know what life is like in places like that. I have had a close encounter with some people from here and I trusted too easily. Well, I was wrong. I'm just glad you visited and left the place safely.
Kid: Where are you from?
Jon: I'm from the US. Where are you from?
Kid: I'm from my mother.
Jon: You're from your mother? Mee too!
