This was my first visit to Shinshoji Temple at Mount Naritasan, a journey that took about 2.5 hours on foot. From the bustling specialty streets to the thousand-year-old temple, and then to the serene forest park, it was a wonderful trip. Please enjoy!

This was my first visit to SHINSHOJI Temple at NARITA, a journey that took about 2.5 hours on foot. The weather was splendid, with pleasant temperatures. There are many charming little shops here, each brimming with local character. Here, you can find a selection of unique bamboo woven utensils for sale. They offer a signature dish here: eel rice, which I highly recommend everyone try. They sell local signature kimchi here, though it’s not quite to my taste. A very typical building from the Edo period. Shinshō-ji was founded in 940 by Kanchō Daisōjō. For over 600 years, Narita-san remained a remote, humble, provincial temple—until Tokugawa Ieyasu moved his capital to Edo in 1603. The current Great Main Hall dates from 1968 The Kōmyō-dō, built in 1701 Here dedicated to the Dainichi Nyorai Buddha (Vairocana), the principal image of Shingon Buddhism The Great Peace Pagoda, or Heiwa no Daito, is massively tall structure that was built in 1984. The prayer area is up the stairs, and down on the ground level you can enter a museum. Narita-san Park (16.5 hectares) opened in 1928. Compared to the bustling commercial streets, here is beautifully tranquil. Writers, painters, poets, and artists stroll through here; I believe they can gain tremendous artistic inspiration. The zen-like mountains, rocks, and waterfalls make it seem like a place inhabited by elves. The Shaka-dō (Shakyamuni Hall), built in 1858
