Hhey folks! I’m Adam and I’m Amy and we’re going to give you 10 great things to do and see in shinjuku when you’re in Tokyo Japan. this is one of the hottest tourist areas in all of Japan we’re going to talk about Godzilla, the Penguin Park, we’re going to talk about the night life, and everything in between. so stick around this is going to be a fun video! I’m excited I love shinjo it was one of our favorite neighborhoods in Tokyo and I think we should kick this off with the giant Godzilla.. in the room… the giant godzilla. So when you first get into the district one of the first things that you’re going to see is there’s a big movie theater okay a very well-known movie theater now you may or may not want to go to a movie but on the top of the large building they’ve got a Godzilla head, like a bust of Godzilla… peering over the neighborhood! it’s very cool! it’s definitely photo worthy and kind of it was my favorite part of the entire District. I took a picture of a road sign that the whole thing is called Godzilla Road! Godzilla road yeah very awesome so when you first get there that’s probably going to be the most eye-catching thing but there’s a lot of stuff to catch your eyes. cuz this is a well lit, cool signage lots of fun things going on. Harajuku girls and Lord knows what gigantic buildings and neon lights everywhere! but you can’t miss Godzilla and I think that’s going to be the first thing that you’re going to want to see and that probably was my driving factor to go to the entire neighborhood to begin with. I wanted to see this gigantic Godzilla outside the movie theater and it’s a great attraction it literally made me want to start a movie theater just so I could put King Kong over it very cool very rival it yes okay so that’s our first thing is check out Godzilla so after you check out Godzilla you may be hungry and this is a great um District to be hungry they have some of the best sushi and the best ramen that you can find in all of Tokyo and you’re going to see just tons of restaurants packed absolutely everywhere there are all pretty small I’m talking you know maybe 8 to 12 people can sit in a restaurant at a single time so often times you’ll see um locals like lined up around the block to get to their favorite Ramen spot or their favorite sushi place um we were lucky enough to get a seat at um a really really fantastic ramen restaurant and it was one of the best meals I like not just in Tokyo but one of the best meals I’ve had in my entire life okay but you know what’s neat about Tokyo is that they take pride in their small mom and popop ramen shops they literally have like newspapers and magazines where it’ll be a page and it’ll tell you the chef’s name his information and how he makes Ramen um differently than the next guy so there’s literally thousands of these types of shops throughout Japan and they’re kind of hole-in-the-wall SM small little almost equivalent of little diners you know they’re not big chains and each one is unique each one has its own flavoring so if you if you’re on YouTube and someone tells you oh you got to try this Ramen Shop there are a thousand amazing ramen shops so find the one that’s tucked away someplace cool looks fun for you and hit it um there’s no limit on how many different places you can hit you could go there probably a 100 times and not hit the same restaurant twice if you wanted to so you know a cool way to you know maybe pick out a restaurant if you don’t know the language and you don’t know what the sign says um a fun way to pick what you’re going to eat is to look outside of a restaurant and often times they will have little beautiful beautifully intricately done fake food um it’s in art in Japan there are classes that you can take you know if you go on like Airbnb experience wax bowl that looks like what the bowl you’ll eat looks like yes and it’s absolutely fascinating so so much more intriguing than just seeing um a picture on a menu you’re going to be able to actually um see beautiful models of your food before um someone actually makes it for you yeah no it’s really fun and you’ll notice that all over the place and it’s kind of cool particularly if you don’t speak the language that you can look in the window and they’ll have a bowl of ramen sitting there or a a plate of sushi and you’ll look at him oh that’s that’s the kind I like that’s what I want those little noodles with I want the shrimp and the octopus on the side you know whatever it may be um they have it on display ready for you and it’s a very cool art form within Japan Okay so the third thing that you might notice when you were in the Shinjuku neighborhood um is crossing the street just got a whole lot cuter oh yeah yeah yeah so there’s a 3D display on the corner do we know the name of the hyper realistic is it called cross space I think so yeah cross space and on the side of the building it’s a 3D cat and the cat corresponds to the directions for TR Crossing Track he’ll sit there and kind of mess around um when you’re not supposed to cross and then when you’re supposed to cross he’ll move around so it’s a big TV screen I’m sure we’ll have it as an overlay um thousands of people have taken pictures and videos of this um it is a sight to be seene and they rotate the different actions to where if you come back 15 minutes later he’s doing different stuff it’ll be a different cat it’ll be different activities um sometimes he’s chasing a ball of yarn and it’s an entire corner of a building and it’s a lot of fun to see and that is up there with Godzilla I didn’t I didn’t know that that’s where this thing was I’ve seen some videos of it before so for me that was a special treat cuz I didn’t expect to see it and then up on the side of the building you got this very playful tigerish cat um s on the side of a skyscraper it’s very fun Whimsical iconic um and just there’s a lot of different things that kind of make um just everyday normal very pedestrian things very fun in Japan crossing the street who knew like that much cuter you’re entertained while you’re waiting the cross you’re just watching the cat play with yarn or something whatever he may be doing it’s a lot more fun than just to countdown mhm so uh fourth thing let’s see um hit an observation deck there are a lot of observation decks throughout Tokyo but one of the coolest ones is actually at the Metropolitan government building um in shinjo it has some of the best prices as well because it is a government building um it’s really really fun to get a bird’s eye view of um Shinjuku really of anywhere in Tokyo because it’s such a huge City the biggest city in the world and so you can imagine all of the lights seeing a sunset or just seeing um everything on a clear day it’s absolutely incredible sometimes you’re even able to see Mount Fuji if you know the conditions are right yeah and if you get a chance obviously go outside the district and hit some of those other observation decks Tokyo Tower is beautiful and there’s a lot different areas or even get your hotel room on a high floor in a skyscraper to where you are living that experience that is um one of the few times in my life um that I’ve been in a really really huge City so um that was really cool for me to just understand the enormity of Tokyo is when you get to see it from above and just see how huge it is how big the buildings are and how many people and lights are are just all around these really really fun and I think one of the things about the observation decks is you can really see how much they’ve Incorporated nature into the city so the parks and things as well as mountains in the background that sort of thing that you’re not going to get in every big city and every observation deck that is true and that also brings us to a next thing that you can do in Shinjuku is hit a park um Shinjuku Park in particular and especially um in the springtime check out the very very iconic beautiful and oo fragrant Japanese blossoms so sjuku park absolutely gorgeous one of the nicer parks in the area so if you’re looking for a good place to relax and just see a little bit of nature some Japanese cherry blossoms in the right time of year etc etc it’s just a beautiful Park to go to so that’s worth your time I agree um another Park while we’re talking about Parks um a very iconic Park in um Shinjuku is the sukia um Penguin Park you love that one I think it’s cute the Suki um is um kind of your Subway and way to pay and you know tap to pay in Japan and um their logo is a cute little penguin and in this park they have brass or probably brass like brass um statues of penguins um like real life size and they are absolutely adorable fun um photo opportunity and also just a beautiful Park to relax and unwind it’s right after you get off of the subway station so if you know you’ve been underground and on a train for a while it’s a really nice place to have a picnic lunch or just get some fresh air as we mentioned in a previous video make sure to click subscribe so you can see all of our videos about Japan Thailand Costa Rica and everything in between um you’ll note that you’re not supposed to eat on the subway on the Metropolitan things like that so it’s kind of cool that the Metropolitan Transit is my understanding uh put together a park for you to have lunch before or after you’re on the train and it’s kind of the end of the train line so that really does does help out there and give you a place that you can just relax have your lunch not bother anyone and then get on the train and there’s a lot of cool Street vendors in the area so grabbing something and eating it at the park just make sure that you’re prepared to carry your trash home cuz there are not trash cans at the park good point good point okay so next you can hit a vending machine store um which vending machine stores I think in the United States we would think of vending machines as specifically places where you get a snack you know a candy bar a bag of chips um maybe a drink but in Japan they are so much more than that yeah they call them a capsule store um some of them are owned by Capcom the gaming company so it’s little capsules that will have a gift or a prize candy in it it could be a a Kit Kat or it could be a little action figure it could be a kokum man it could be a lot of different things um but you put your coin in turn it and it’s like those little capsules that you would get at um like the grocery store when you were a kid that might have a super ball in it they’ve got just hundreds and hundreds of these um capsule machines available for you and we’ve got plenty of overlays I when I was there I went ahead and I took so much video for reals of these stores and I probably took too much but there was so many weird things like it was like would you like a tiny air plane or would you like a version of airplane food or a piece of sushi like they had literally four stories hundreds and hundreds of these little vending machines they were fantastic and they’re very collectible like you said um sort of like when you’re a kid and get a little toy or something it’s almost like um a series like you want all of the Happy Meal toys that’s kind of how these capsule stores are you want to get you want to collect all five things are all six things yeah all right folks and for anyone who’s new to the channel make sure you go ahead in the comments below the first comment will likely be pinned and I try to do like a giveaway or some sort of cash prize each month is the goal so look to see I think um the month that we recorded this it said we’re going to give away some money if we hit 1,000 subscribers but look below at that pin comment to see what the active promotion or what we’re doing because we we want more subscribers we want you to join us we want you to leave comments so please do that as well we’ve got a lot of fun travel plan including Thailand Japan Vietnam coming up again we are going back to Cancun we just went to Costa Rica and of course we’re doing Tamp on a tankful France Italy and Spain coming up in a few weeks yeah I forgot that’s in less than a month so make sure you and and cruises Tampa is getting some of the largest ships in the world are going to come through after they they’ve redone the ports and we’re doing a virgin cruise with Virgin voyages thanks to Richard Branson did you know that that virgin voyages started I believe in 2020 or 2019 that it was new I knew that recent wow that’s crazy so we were one of the first people to do a review of The Scarlet lady I still think about it being like 2021 or like like it doesn’t seem that long ago at all that’s crazy all right so what do we have next okay so next you could hit up donot donot the man of the mountaina yes for a little bit of shopping um donot is a really really fun mega store in um Japan well there’s a few in Hawai some in Thailand they’re throughout Asia but some of the biggest ones are in Tokyo and they are a super super fun store and the donkey hot here in the Shinjuku region uh or neighborhood is just a little bit smaller than the one in shabuya but it is still worth a visit it’s open 24/7 it’s like seven or eight or eight stor depending on which one you go to of course um if you bring your passport and you check out on a certain floor you can get this um taxfree and get all of your souvenirs um all we picked up a lot of Kit Kats like of all flavors I picked up some of my favorite skincare products some the entire floor for pharmacy yes like some nice um J skin products that are just quickly becoming my favorite I’ve got to get back to Japan and stock up before um you know before I run out um but incredible prices on everything and some really fun um food as well that you can grab so some of the overlays you’ll see maybe from the donot store that’s in the main shabuya District maybe some from the Shinjuku District but it’s a really fun store locals call it the donkey store or at least probably tourists call it the donkey store um donkey Hotes just to recap what it is several stories and each story will have a theme you might have like a pharmacy section you may have a a hair care you may have a candy like an entire floor just a candy I think usually the bottom floor is kind of knickknacks tourism type stuff that that’s gifts but it’s a big tourist attraction it’s a lot of fun and yeah you’ll find some things that you won’t find anywhere else there they’ve got a lot of fun painted walls even the elevators are are glammed up um you’ll have a good time escalators between each floor it’s a lot of fun uh if and if you are like me when I was a kid I was a huge San Rio fan and I was just like my happiest self there’s an entire floor of everything San Rio and it’s all like really really affordable so they got a luggage section and they even have um it’s 24 hours which is good cuz if you’re jet lag and you don’t know what you’re going to do with your time and you’re up at 3:00 in the morning go to the store go get a snack go see what’s going on during the day they even have a photo area where you can take photos with a fun characters and things so they got a photo section that’s worth seeing again if you’re um up and about at a weird time of day not everything’s open 24 hours in Japan but the donkey store is absolutely dony Hotes so um Shinjuku is a really fun neighborhood it’s great for food it’s great for tourism it’s also got a little bit of a reputation C side yeah um you want to you want to take this one I don’t know how much we can say here so for all intents and purposes it’s a great place to get a massage you can get a traditional Asian massage or a more fun massage if you’re so inclined um there are places that you can meet video girls and also sorts of fun signs and places that sometimes are female friendly but they are um you can get a massage there it’s an adult District yeah we don’t want to go too far into that but you get the idea right so if you are looking for that sort of thing um there’s not a lot of that in Japan compared to like Thailand so going to Tokyo you’re going to want to go to this district and see all the sites particularly the video girls and they they have little things where you can just kind of almost pay for companionship just have somebody who has a drink with you it’s a different culture but it’s fun I uh that’s definitely something that Shinjuku is known for I think it’s more acceptable um they’ve just got a lot of people who work long hours and then when you’re done with work you have drink with drinks with a girl I will say that for a Cy area of town it’s super clean and safe it’s yeah like more so than um any other the other country any other country so um did we see some Shinjuku girls and if so or some um what’s the correct term haruku Harajuku Girls my bad and um what are those what are Harajuku Girls so I think that is just kind of like a Japanese um kind of teen fun subculture almost like we have you know like go girls or kids something like that um we did see some in Shinjuku but I don’t think that’s the neighborhood that’s necessarily known there were definitely some walking around though so there’s just cute girls in fun Japanese costumes walking around um it’s something to see if you’re into people watching there’s a lot going on in that District particularly at night so it’s a good night District to hang out in so last but not least um number 10 on our list we’ve got the Shinjuku um I land love sculpure I land I dashland and there’s just a sculpture there that’s in a lot of movies and it is just a great place to take a picture so I land um it’s the love sculpture we’ll hopefully put at least a still picture of it on screen but it’s a good place and it’s in a lot of movies particularly Japanese movies very famous spot for sightseeing and photography so if you get a chance there’s some good shopping in that area as well so it’s a good place to just take some photos and be a tourist we had a lot of fun we took um some photos in that um district and I really really enjoyed um that it was snowing that day oh yeah so we had you called it snow yes we had a really fun time there really enjoyed that I’m a big fan of uh Tokyo and had a great time there too that was in just the lp that’s a different District but yeah that’s still um yeah we had a good time it was a great time so folks um again I’m Adam this is Amy we enjoy traveling around the world we love getting comments from you guys give your stories tell us when you’ve been to Japan where you’ve been where you’ve traveled the world also really important to me I love to hear where our viewers are from more recently the percentage has gone down we’re in the 20s like 28% are from the United States that means that 72% of you I had to do quick math 72% of you are from all around the world you know I’ve seen Brazil on there Brazil a big one Japan B one Japan’s about 4% yeah so um tell us where you’re from we love to hear where our viewers are from because we have such cool viewers with cool backgrounds and there’s a lot of international Travelers and we we enjoy the travel and I enjoy traveling with Amy um she’s so much fun to travel with it doesn’t matter where we go we can go to the local flea market and make a video we have a good time and that just makes me happy that I’ve got somebody that I can kind of go anywhere with so it is more fun to travel with so get your travel partner don’t be afraid to hit those new districts I always watch the Youtube videos before I go it makes it more um enjoyable for me to have an idea of what I’m stepping into if I’m going to see Godzilla I want a little bit of a teas like okay I know what that’s going to look like and then I’m looking for it it’s always fun when we watch other creators videos and then I feel like oh I’ve seen that on TV like I’ve seen that before so it’s um I don’t know it’s fun and then it’s fun to rewatch again and kind of um after you’ve seen it in real life to go back and watch that content again and be like oh I remember that um so hopefully um we can Inspire some of your travels and also um give you a little bit of nostalgia if you um have been to these places before and you know um can remember them yourself yeah I got to hand it to YouTube I feel like I would rather watch a person travel to Japan than I would watch a professional NBC travel show where they stage everything and it’s not really what the experience is I want to hear someone’s real experience like what did they do there what did they not like what did they like did they get the massage right how um how busy is she got the massage sometimes you go to um or you see things on Instagram or you see things like on the stage shows and you kind of expect that you’re going to be the only person there so sometimes it gives you a ristic like okay there’s other people at this beautiful pristine waterfall park or this gorgeous spring it’s not just like one person doing a yoga pose with real YouTube videos you get to see what’s really happening and I feel like sometimes with Instagram you just see somebody taking a selfie and cutting out 80 people in the background right all right folks I’m Adam make sure to click like And subscribe we do appreciate you thank you again to Amy um go ahead and blow up the comments thank her for joining us she’s um you don’t always love to be on social media but you’ve done such a great job of helping this channel grow so thank you so much thanks for watching and adios amigos adios amigos
