Tokyo to Kyoto on Japan’s FASTEST Shinkansen (Worth The Money?)

Shinkansen or bullet trains from Tokyo to Kyoto are a popular thing to try while visiting Japan. We grew up hearing about Japans famous bullet trains and we’re excited to ride a Shinkansen for the first time! A Shinkansen is a great way to see all over Japan if you have the time. Today We hop on Japan’s FASTEST bullet train from Tokyo Japan to Kyoto Japan for a day trip. Is this Bullet Train/ Shinkansen worth the extra cost? We will find out!

what is up travel Squad we are back at it again back at it again and today we are getting on the F not the very first I want to say the very first we getting on the fastest bullet train in Tokyo and our very first bullet train in history in history who are making history I’m super excited we’ve always heard about these like growing up a lot of people have heard about it growing up and we’re finally experiencing it for ourselves so today we’re going to do a very formal comparison between the bright line and the bullet training cute we’ve got to mention like 2 days ago we’re actually in shabuya and we are steps away from a train station which has been wonderful for real for real but where are we going where’s the bullet train taking us it is taking us to Koto and we are going to spend the day there until like 8:00 at night and then we have a 2-hour trip back to Tokyo yesterday was kind of abysmal when it comes to weather but I’m really glad today turned out to be sunny and cold this is perfection I hope it stays this way all day and the rest of the trip for real I’m so glad we got a sunny day love even with no cars coming Japanese people respect the stop sign OJ walking here yeah I’m pretty sure you get in really big trouble if you did it but we got a green now but of course our first stop in the morning is 7eleven our favorite restaurant in Tokyo yes please go eat here tell them that we sent you starting the morning off right I see with some strawberry with cream sandwiches and rice yeah this is just like um egg vegetables and soy sauce egg vegetable and soy sauce yeah sounds good to me and I’m guessing you’re going to get your Starbucks yeah let’s see what they have though I think I’m going to go more American and get some pancakes with maple syrup they have them oh my gosh you can put that back you going to get that too I want to get it too Lura pointed out that there’s some lemon pepper chicken over here were you back in Atlanta I say we just have dinner here completely one night we’re back where we were 24 hours ago and we’re veterans now we know where to go how many steps do you think you’re going to get in today um I’m going to go with like 12,000 I don’t think it’s going to be as much as it was yesterday a I can’t wait to replay this later and like 12,000 ,000 12,000 passing the Starbucks again I forgot it existed but I feel like we have to go to a Starbucks either in Kyoto or is that Saturday or I promise you we will and I just saw a melon tape flavored drink I got to have that there’s a lot of people here but it’s not even bad you just have to follow just go with the flow because we are going to Kyoto on this in Juku we’re using the Jr line but we didn’t actually get the Jr pass cuz we didn’t need it because Jr pass was like $1,000 and we just bought like round trip tickets which ended up being like around $300 to $400 so you don’t have to get the Jr pass if you come to Tokyo just you can just buy single and you should be Gucci right I just showed up on this trip Laura she’s been helpful but on this one I was like really planning and she’s the one just like I just show up he’s literally like go here go here like he’s lived in this city before just call me a native Japanese I just can’t speak it I’m very very thankful for him Tokyo is gorgeous in the spring it’s so nice I I I don’t know yes SM so good as you guys can see other than like leaves and stuff on the ground it’s relatively clean the trains are clean they upkeep the train they look kind of like brand new to be honest I I’m going to sound so cliche I could see myself living here oh my God every new place I go to I see I heard and I saw that the Tokyo station is one of the busiest ones or if not the busiest ones in Tokyo so we might have a little bit of trouble to be honest with you it it seems like it’s hectic and it’s all like underground yeah we’ve probably been getting a little too cocky this morning I don’t know it’s just like a wind honestly the fact that we figured it out even though we were stressing yesterday no today we’re just like Champs look at these cherry blossoms they’re just lining the street over here wow when you see online people go to special parks and all that stuff like that but honestly you can see cherry blossoms all around Tokyo even though it’s a city it’s still they have a lot of cherry blossom trees I think this is the most we’ve seen I think so like all in one place yeah but I wonder if the ones out in the country are like massive maybe like red like redwoods yeah all right all right which Shen Consin do we take there’s one Shen Consin there’s a Jr Shen conin I’m pretty sure it’s this one all right we got our card let’s get ready to go it was weird cuz F had to scan his QR code and I just had to touch my phone yeah that was weird even though this is like the busiest station in Tokyo it doesn’t feel like it’s that busy right like it feels like a normal station like it doesn’t feel like that busy it’s def a little bit more but honestly even just look at the signs cuz that’s what I did there’s one right here as we come up the walk the stairs and it is so long look how long these trains are it goes on forever holy wa that was cool right that was really cool please stay behind we’re in car 8 you ready our train is here SE 11 hopefully we get to see M Fuji it’s honestly nice that we have a couple hours and we can kind of just like enjoy our little like snacks and coffee and stuff people are getting off the shin content and we have to wait like 10 minutes cuz they’re going to clean it so it’s not like you just get on right away that’s fine by me do you want to try to see if we get through the front yeah you can give it a try there’s the beauty that we’re going to be getting on in 10 minutes or at leaves in 10 minutes we ran all the way to the front it’s like a freaking mile long seriously the train is so long I am so excided looks like we’re going to be going backwards by the way there’s a lot of fast bullet trains but this one is the fastest in the world well in Tokyo okay so we’re going to get there real quick if you see the train that says n700s Supreme those usually the fastest ones cuz they’re are another ones I could say and 700 and that’s how you know if you have a faster train or not do you want to get any um sodas or anything before we get on board eh I still have a whole coffee to drink it is kind of weird that they have Coke but not Diet Coke I guess that’s like going a American thing his diet cook is filled with oh that’s true poison or whatever true you’re welcome for what getting you more steps today let’s see what am I at so far 4500 for the day so far I gave you 2,000 more STS we just started here we go get it on board here we go that’s 12C this is 11c there we go there we go little room tour real quick before we start moving we have a tray table o that’s a nice tray table you have a like a hook for your like jackets and stuff like that you also have hooks right here for for like more jackets you have that you have magazines you have a foot rest nice little foot rest that you can adjust too by stepping on the petals oh oh I didn’t even know that do yeah you can go all the way to the floor oh nice you can drop it low you can drop it low and then we have a huge window and hopefully on the right side cuz I saw and red that when you’re going to Koto you see it on the right side of the train you can possibly see Mal Fuji out the window o sorry so that’s why we’re sitting on this side and then I think these reclined to oh yeah oh I went back really fast we got the premium first class seeds those ones you do more expensive you can get the ones that aren are just like regular you can don’t have to Reser you sit anywhere those are cheaper but I think you don’t get a foot rest with them but they’re equally like as much space like there’s like 2 ft at least between my knee and the front seat Delta needs to take some notes can you imagine how expensive those prices of flights would be this is quite lovely and of course there’s outlets right here so if you want to charge your phone you can plug it in and our ticket was to leave at 11:48 and just like that you’re leaving the station right on time Japan is always on time yeah it’s also kind of cool cuz this is how you put your seat back so you just go down just put your seat back and go oh that doesn’t go forward that brings the seat up interesting I know you can’t tell for how low Laura went back but like she’s I’m like almost laid out this is what the Del yeah Delta need have you Delta one oh yeah I forgot we even have a little shelf for your drinks I love this so much soft girl life over here this train also comes with some free Wi-Fi that we can enjoy for the next 2 hours just then Laura has discovered Mount Fuji so now she’s getting all her foot like I’ve taking like 50 million videos oh yeah I can see it right there it’s like you can see the white tip right there that’s pretty cool wow Lord look at that that’s smell fi wow seen it in person how incredible I hope it’s like that when we go there tomorrow yeah we’re going there tomorrow right oh yes we will see you tomorrow night so if anyone is curious we are going about 279 280 kmph which is also 173 mph jeez look how fast we’re going and it’s super super smooth too I’ve had my stuff just chilling here and it doesn’t move it’s going to put me to sleep it looks like they have a mobile ordering thing too so if you ever want to get like food and drink while on the I say on the ship on the train you can mobile order it too 2 hours later so how was your first sh conon ride that was like okay it went by and like the blink of an eye like I felt like I was on that train for about 30 minutes before we got here I think I could have stayed on all day and just like watch Japan go by I fell asleep I wish plane seats were like that I was like I’m scared to I was going to snore remember the number of the bus 206 206 let’s go find city bus this is fun right this is the most crowded public transportation we’ve been on we finally made it to Kyoto oh you guys saw that earlier but we are at a shrine now and the buildings look pretty old it definitely already feels like much more of like a historical looking City yeah but Kyoto is pretty much like Tokyo as you guys can see there tourist everywhere well I do like that this doesn’t look brand new that’s true that’s true like this has still been amazing but if you want to get authentic Japanese fi do not come to coyota we just got here we’ll see what other areas are like this is just one little spot how old do you think this wood is it looks like super old I would say like thousands really H look at this unique Starbucks it’s in like a traditional house that’s pretty dope you want to try it out we’ve made it what are you planning on getting here I think I’m going to try that melon drink but yeah this is definitely super crowded but it’s not a regular Starbucks it’s a cool Starbucks oh my gosh you’re you’re definitely 30 mhm so this is what the Japanese Starbucks looks like in Kyoto you guys can pause the screen if you want to read it it’s pretty much the same drinks that we have in the states except for this one right here yay we finally found a seat that was rough just like getting the food finding a seat it is so packed with tourist here it’s just like don’t I wouldn’t come to Kyoto honestly if you come to Tokyo skip Kyoto it’s beautiful but this feels 10 times more crowded than Tokyo I’m a little sad everyone’s seen the same videos online I mean don’t get me wrong like you knew what to expect you just didn’t expect to this like sity and it doesn’t help that it’s like still like Japanese architecture so it’s like tiny and small I hit my head on one of the ra did you really yeah I when we were going down the stairs Ian wh oh that’s what that was I thought you just tripped on your own feet no I hit my but right now we got a cold sandwich we have some cake and we got two drinks and a little donut so hi my name is Fain and this is my first drink of the day hi I’m Laura and this is my first drink of the day oh it’s nice but yeah we’re just going to chill in this classic Tokyo house and enjoy some Starbucks bring our anxiety level from here to here this dut I actually like it Earl gry it’s it tastes kind of like Earl gry tea but it’s not too bad it’s different it’s not like a dut like American donut you know what I’m going to say what I like it cuz it’s not too sweet Japan is a place for you then ooh I found a little like I don’t know it’s comes from syrup not sure what it is I’ve seen it on the internet I kind of want to try it I wonder if those are like potato like sticks like you get in those cans in the grocery store I feel like yams or something don’t I don’t want that we are place number two and it’s not as bad it’s still kind of busy but it’s not as bad overall thing is we’re in Tokyo right now I mean not Tokyo we’re in Japan right now we’re in kyota we could be in Orlando Florida doing nothing with our lives but working I know I get frustrated with myself in these moments for getting so frustrated when I know that like I’m I’ve been wanting to come here for so long matcha house though that’s where we are matcha house is a lot less crowded than Starbucks was so maybe if you had to pick between the two I’d probably come here but let’s test it out it has no sweetener in it but it tastes like matcha that’s cool and all but I’m actually curious about your little box right there you’re curious about my box yeah I’m curious about your box all right so this is just like a little nacha tiasu I think something like that look at it jiggle great googly moogly that thing is jiggly e the aim W looks like melted marshmallow yeah it feels like it too you don’t like it no it’s good that’s really creamy oh there’s cake at the bottom okay let me try it with some cake it’s very good but I wouldn’t go out of my way for it so far Kyoto has been a lot we’re going to keep continue walk around check it out but where the Starbucks and all that is it’s straight up Taurus I find that I have to actually bring out my American Tokyo I was like being very respectful and stuff but here I had to bring out my like American just like I’m just going to do whatever I want to do because people aren’t paying attention at all so if you ever come to to Kyoto and you go to that area make sure honestly has not really felt like a touristy spot to me compared to this so we’re going to check something else out cuz I it all can’t be bad but we have read things online where that are stating like the tourist in Kyoto it’s really bad right now I guess you can kind of say if you’re coming here as a tourist and you want to see it it’s awesome but at the same time if you’re looking to do a specific thing that you’ve seen online it can be a nightmare I gu say maybe if you have your expectations managed which I don’t think we did I will say though it is absolutely gorgeous yes and look at this cherry blossom is literally right here yeah and I love seeing the super like ancient architecture that is my absolute favorite so it’s too bad it’s super crowded but it is beautiful look at these things holy crap these are gorgeous wow I’m happy just seeing flowers I’m happy I’m just happy that the bloom happened to be around the same time Laura got cherry blossoms on her nails and then we have some cherry blossoms right here that we have more bad luck fortunes up here would you like to give it another shot uh I think I’m going to stick with the one that was burned I’m good wow look at this this is the kyota I wanted to see yeah this is much better and it’s quiet so quiet look at this place Cherry Blom housing this is gorgeous don’t listen to anything we said earlier don’t go to any of the places we went earlier when you get off the bus at that area just take a left and just walk down yeah I think it’s the area of oh my gosh this a really long word giom Machi mewa what she said this is so cool like so there’s like really tight streets right here but I think this is a walking Lane so usually in the States this will be like a bike lane but this is a pedestrian Lane I mean it’s like a sidewalk I guess it’s very possible POS it could be a bike lane and we’re just walking in it maybe so we just walked downstairs to go get on the train and let me know if anyone recognizes this this reminds me of the movie us if you guys have seen it say we are now in the underground tunnels from us like literally this looks like us it’s just like a NeverEnding tunnel underground that is so funny should we look for some classrooms and rabbits and stuff people in red jumpsuits this is where we came from like all the way down where the yellow sign is and we’re still walking a little later we’re here at our last place in Kyoto it’s the place of a thousand shrines I believe it’s very populari Inari TAA Shrine it’s a very very popular when you look up Tokyo you’ve definitely seen pictures of it let’s go check it out I think this is how you know Kyoto is fed up with visitors cuz there’s so many signs of what not to do here yeah I wouldn’t blame them look at all these things they put to make sure no one Parks well no that’s what those do is that you park over it and then it pops up so you can’t leave without paying oh L do you hear that hear what exactly that was so cheesy that’s what I’m looking for right now just quietness hopefully it doesn’t mean that we’re headed to the wrong spot there’s literally no one on the road totally 180 from what we just experienced if this is what it takes I’m all I’m down for it now these are the shrines that we’re looking at these Gates right here we’re about to see a whole bunch more wow just look at this thing definitely themed and then there’s riding on the back of all of them I believe when you coming back down you can see that this this is intense though be prepared for a hike yeah this is not a dress up look nice picture area just stairs on stairs on stairs look what I found gety cat there was two over here there’s one right there or something like this when we do come back cuz we are coming back cuz I want to do some stuff that’s not toy we’re going to get like a guide or tour guide to explain what’s going on because we’re just like looking at stuff you don’t understand the signific of what it is yeah it’s like oh that looks cool like there’s been a lot of these shrines right here that have like the red flags and the gates and animals and all that I have no idea what it is do you think these little gates are counting toward the 1,000 like the little mini Gates maybe all right we finally finally after climbing a whole Mountain found these Gates Instagram Gates here we go do do you feel better now barely I think we actually went the back way there’s like a crap ton more gat down here and they’re all coming up the hill thanks Apple Maps you sent us the wrong way cuz you know we didn’t walk enough yesterday so we had to get more steps right and this coming back to bite me what I said earlier how many steps do you think we’re going to get in today um I’m going to go with like 12,000 I don’t think it’s going to be as much as it was yesterday there looks to be like a fork in the road do you want to keep going up or do you want to take what’s behind door number two I think it would be nice to go down for a change this is so gorgeous though oh my God I’m glad we came but I’m also glad we went the wrong way I wouldn’t say it’s easier going down cuz my knees are like bracing my my weight on every stair but at the same time like we’re enjoying this or earlier today because there’s probably a lot more people so this is the map of everything I believe we came up out of here and went this way and now we’re just making our way back down that’s a lot of gates I mean there’s a thousand Gates about to say there’s thousand of them yeah we definitely went the wrong way because they have all these different Shops and stells and everything at the entrance we took the VIP back door exactly so if you don’t want to go up the intimidating ladder of the stairs that doesn’t make any sense go the back way follow Apple Maps yeah we can’t really tell you how to get there just put it in Apple Maps and hopefully it’ll take you it’s literally through a neighborhood I think if it feels like you’re driving through like the hills in La like all the houses and stuff like that and it say curvy that’s what you’re doing tell them we send you oh should we get one of these take one home for 1,000 yen those are so cute all right we’re two for two for going to Starbucks today I can’t decide which one to get the Kyoto one the Japan one you can’t you didn’t go to Kobe anara and Asaka no I’m between kyodo and Japan do the Japan one because the Japan one has a cat on it yeah that’s what’s really getting me but I just love the colors of kyodo why don’t you get both no I’ll get one you get one okay that was easy this is the first thing I’m buying in Tokyo as a souvenir this is our very first souvenir and neither of these are mine that’s yours wait did I just get finesse you wanted both of them and you didn’t want to pay so I paid and you was like oh it was your suggestion 1,000% if you guys think I just got finessed put it down in the comments down below cuz I don’t even drink coffee we’re back here and we’re looking for dinner because we’re not going to get back till late but I forgot there’s stores over here that you can buy little Bento boxes and meals and I believe these are the stores and they offer a range of things so we can get Bento boxes and eat them on the train and stuff inad like I down restaurant you can also sit over here at Starbucks after so these are like the bento box I’m talking about unfortunately it looks like they’re all out they don’t have anymore not going to lie that looks really good I think this is more like it we have sandwiches over here some breads some snacks I think this is more our Vibe do you see anything you like um maybe thats good what’s that fried chicken I think it’s Fried Chicken my app said it was popcorn chicken from Publix we’ll see so we might have overdone it because we’re excited but also hungry we got a big bag of food it cost us 3,400 Yen which equates to 22 bucks I didn’t see you got this thing yeah like it had all the different sandwiches in it sandwich sampler okay I’ll be trying this shuchi board shuchi sandwich that sounds gross but no we get all this food and it equates to 34 Yen 34,000 Yen or $22 I could get used to this in the States this would have definitely been like a 100 bucks in the airport I don’t know how this is going to be but what is that I I don’t know chicken non Bon it said chicken so I got it PL it I did end up getting a Bento Box I don’t remember what it looks like it did look good on the picture so we can open this on the train it’s pretty I’m guessing it probably is fish I saw this Kyoto lemonade and I was like oh Japanese lemonade and then all the businessmen for picking up this beer it’s Kyoto’s first craft beer clean well balanced top fermented beer so I like you know what if they’re getting it your boy’s going to get it I saw one guy in a suit just like putting like several in his basket It’s been a question do you think if we got married in Japan would your friends come I mean I think they would have to but I wouldn’t want to make them do that but like with the prices here I mean and the food quality just pay a lot of money for a ticket and then Dodge pay much while you’re here that’s what other people do like they’re like they use it as a vacation too I don’t know about making people fly 12 13 hours it would be incredible but I’m not sure how many people would show up to our wedding ready to go home I am so ready is not a young man’s game it’s not a 30-year-old’s game either evidently walking walking Hill stairs and my body is ready to lay down it feels like mentally good though like knowing that I accomplished it physically though I need an ice bath I need a night of sleep and then I’ll hopefully feel better here it comes our ticket [Music] home I also just want to show that there’s little things right here you can take it and push it down and actually spin or maybe not but you can turn the seats around so like if two people sitting right there you have four friends one right here you can spin it around so you guys can face each other that’s pretty cool I think you have the right idea this leans so far back I swear this goes back further than the first one time to open the box I can’t remember what was in it so we’ll see what did I get I don’t know what I got is that mushrooms why would I get mushrooms do you want this what is it it looks like mushrooms here no it smells fishy that’s for you not bad the rice is good yeah what does it taste like rice rice T pretty good and we’re finally back at shuya station I feel like it’s been like a very long well it has been a long day what time do we leave like 11:00 yeah we left around like 10:00 a.m. I think something that we saw that was crazy on the train on the way back there a lot of like Japanese businessmen falling asleep on the train and like not getting off at the stop like they just pass out on the train like falling asleep standing up and people are just like letting like letting them sleep and they’re just chilling on the train yeah and they’re still in like their full suits business attire so like seems like they’re commuting home from work I’m just like that is absolutely wild to me I mean we obviously don’t understand the culture but the fact that they’re just that tired not to wake up when there’s office called is crazy to me so many people still asleep at the end of the line that we just got off we’re at the end of the line and there’s people just chilling sleeping in their seat different country different culture for split second we turned the corner and I saw that sign and I thought it said Magic City let’s go I’m starting to think that we need to actually eat a real restaurant Meal instead of getting little snacks here and there at convenience stores but they’re really popular and they have good meals I will say we went in there for one thing but for though we really have to go to like some authentic restaurant because all we’ve been eating is ramen and convenience food stuff and it’s good it’s just that we’re not really living up to our potential I say tomorrow we replace no meals with convenience store but we already got breakfast okay no meals besides breakfast all right how about that let’s try it guys it has been a very adventurous day full of ups and downs literally but as always thank you so much for watching and we’ll see you guys oh
