A new type of ride system that uses roller coaster track but acts like a dark ride has just been unveiled at the IAAPA convention in Orlando. The Duel Power Coaster from Dynamic Attractions combines a motion base with a roller coaster, but looks like a dark ride. Now folks are asking, is this going to be the ride system for Mario Kart at Super Nintendo World? Plus, we check in on the current status of each of the Super Nintendo Worlds coming to three Universal Resorts around the world.

recently the company dynamic attractions
unveiled the world’s first full motion
based coaster design their new
demonstration of the coaster that looks
and acts like a dark ride but uses
coaster technology has left some to
wonder is this a new mario kart ride

we’ve talked about nintendo rides coming
to universal parks on the channel before
the first nintendo world will be opening
in a couple years at Universal Studios
Japan and construction is making good
progress land clearing has just begun
for what we believe will be Universal
Studios Hollywood spin tend to land as
well in Orlando however while it was
originally planned to be built in the
kids own section of Universal Studios
Florida
it seems super nintendo world will
instead be one of the main lands and a
new theme park being developed south of
the current resort all three of these
iterations of nintendo lands will share
at least one common attraction the mario
kart experience getting back to the new
ride system which was just unveiled at
the Aiyappa convention in Orlando
according to the president of the
company behind the new system dynamic
attractions the dual power coaster is
the world’s most advanced roller coaster
vehicle its unique design allows the car
to appear to sit on a false surface but
actually runs along a coaster track
hidden beneath the car features a full
motion platform that can move in four
different ways it can pitch forward roll
side-to-side change heading and even
raise up and down all while moving along
a track since it’s technically a roller
coaster the right system can utilize
launches to suddenly accelerate to high
speeds and it does all this while
looking like a regular dark ride of
course this seems perfect for a mario
kart
themed attraction and the demonstration
video from the company certainly isn’t
shying away from that fact the intro
even plays Sonic the Hedgehog sound
effects to conjure up the feeling of a
video game type ride in fact rumor was
last year that dynamic attractions was
the company behind the new mario kart
ride of course back then it was rumored
to simply be a basic bus bar ride system
let’s discuss some of the similarities
between the new dual power coasters demo
video and some of the rumors we’ve heard
about the upcoming mario kart ride first
and most obvious is that the new ride
system can run two tracks parallel to
one another called dueling mode by
dynamic a track is shown diverging into
two paths so that the cars can go
head-to-head next is one we’ve seen in
patents developed by Universal
themselves drifting we’ve heard from
multiple sources that drifting will be
one of the key elements of the new mario
kart ride and dynamics video
presentation spends a good deal of time
showing us just how fun a feature like
this could be another inclusion in the
presentation is the use of augmented
reality of course this has been one of
the leading technological breakthroughs
expected to debut with the mario kart
ride and was yet another of universals
patents that we’ve talked about before
it would be a great way to include
power-ups or additional game elements
around you without having to include
physical objects the demo video from
dynamic even shows this feature
utilizing a score system and rings being
collected like in a video game another
sonic the hedghog reference of course a
our goggle technology could be added to
any type of ride system but its
inclusion here is interesting the new
dual power coaster features an
additional element that we don’t think
will be part of the mario kart ride but
can be found in the newest versions of
the game and that’s inversions the video
demonstrates cars rotating around and
driving upside-down with ease while this
was never a rumor for the mario kart
ride it is something that looks
reminiscent of the newer games with
Nintendo’s declaration that the rides of
Super Nintendo World be enjoyable for
everyone regardless of age I doubt this
as one will be seeing
one more feature from the video that
looks familiar is the ability to create
a simulated air time effect this would
have the car jump over an apparent gap
in the path something extremely similar
to the Donkey Kong minecart coaster also
rumored to appear in Super Nintendo
World there definitely are a lot of
features in this new ride system that
have strong connections to the nintendo
world rumors we’ve heard before
personally I’m not too sold on this
being the actual ride system for Mario
Kart it almost feels to me as dynamic
attractions pitched this to Universal in
Nintendo and it was turned down which
might explain why they are now offering
it to other companies they even planned
to open a new ride in Malaysia next year
using this system if that park stays on
schedule amid troubles with Fox that is
however it is undeniable that there’s
certainly a lot of technology that has
been rumored for mario kart involved in
this presentation
who knows if dynamic attractions is
still even the current manufacturer for
the mario kart ride and with the plan
shifting from kids owned at Universal
Studios Florida to the new unannounced
theme park in Orlando who knows what
else has changed maybe this will be the
ride system they go with the first Super
Nintendo world along with the mario kart
ride will be opening at Universal
Studios Japan within the next few years
Universal Studios Hollywood will get
their own version of the land sometime
after currently it is rumored that
Universal Orlando will get there mario
kart ride and Nintendo land when the new
yet to be announced fourth gate opens
likely by 2023 with a few years left to
wait I’m sure we can expect a whole lot
more news and rumors on the subject to
