uh to the start line and uh go take a
look at the teams
all the teams are lining up right now
they’re going to get ready to start
doing introdu uctions presentation of
the flag and the colors so we’re going
to head over there so you can enjoy this
opening ceremony prior to the mass start
run
begins expecting really large crowds
today a lot of folks coming in you can
see them coming in
now this morning start time was pushed
back the opening ceremony usually starts
at 5:30 today it’s at about 6:00 in the
morning so hopefully you get some more
viewers bright and early the attempts
are what 50s and theow 50s right now
right now perfect start yep perfect
temps that Wii KCK on
yep trying to spectate okay we’re live
streaming okay well we still got to go
over there there’s a media
area oh you’re this guy sorry I didn’t
see him
okay you want take yes not
we’re going to do our best to stay up
with these guys over the next three days
believe it or not they don’t lose a
whole lot of
speed even after going at this stuff for
three days
so they’re uh I found that out last year
doing this these guys can still move
we’re going to get you in here for the
opening
ceremony I’m going to hold up here for
just a minute and get situated and then
we’ll get up in there get you up close
ladies and gentlemen the opening
ceremony will begin
all right we’re moving
again it’s over there under under that
line was that
I think I think we’re going to try to
hang out here I think this is uh I’m
going to move in a minute once the teams
come through we’re going to see if we
can catch the teams coming in
here actually I’m going to make a move
big big crowds out here right
now what’s up
man get out of the
way I went out
to all right I think we’re going to try
to hang out here for a bit and then
we’ll make a move again here in a minute
CU I had to turn in the old system yeah
then turn around issue the new system
and then train Euro EUR
crew lots of people here lots of people
[Music]
all right we’re going to we’re going to
sit here and see if we can catch as many
teams as we can coming through they’ll
run right through here then we’ll move
up and uh see if we can get up closer to
the action
so you’re probably wondering a little
bit what these guys look like um their
average age is
28 their average weight over the
last over the last 39 years of this
competition their average their average
weights about
165 they’re all obviously Airborne
Ranger qualified they’re all
volunteers they’re considered decathlon
caliber
athletes and the numbers for this year
there’s they’re approximating 26%
of the field of competitors are former
uh former competitors have done it
before and again there’s 56 teams that
are going to line up this morning to
step into the
arena good to see we got a bunch of
folks on already it’s a little dark and
a little cold here but glad to see
everybody on watching
I’ll do my best to get you guys where
you can see all the action
about
that
was they were ready toap
really
important where it’s
all right we’re going
to look to make some moves here Al the
see the teams over here the lined up
take a look at them through the fence
here there they
are that’s the teams all lined up right
there getting ready to come in be
introduced
they’re all fired up they’re antsy
they’re hydrated they probably all got a
pee right
now it’s just the nerves are going crazy
the best thing that can happen right now
is for them to start then everything
settles down they get relaxed but right
now they’re a ball of
nerves okay here we go the history of
the best Ranger competi began in July
an organization known as the chairborne
Rangers as the ranger training
department to design and conduct a
ranger Olympics to identify the best
Twan Ranger team in the Army the
competition sets extreme Demand on the
team’s physical mental and Technical
abilities as rers the standards of
performance must vastly exceed those
required by the
average the first two best Ranger
competitions in in 1982 and 1983 were
held as competitions between teams from
each of the three Ranger Department camp
in 1984 the competition expanded to
include teams from throughout the Army
over the next 39 years the best Ranger
competition has risen to a national
scale to determine the best Twan Ranger
team from the entire United States armed
forces the competition is a 3-day event
consisting of physical mental and
Technical tasks undertaken with little
rest in between events teams must
complete selected events to remain in
the competition the top 28 teams will
have the opportunity to compete on the
second day and among them only the top
16 teams will compete on the third and
final day the competition has grown to
include multimedia coverage and
high-profile death
and guest speakers this year Lieutenant
General James J mink 39th Vice Chief of

all right guys they’re 12 seconds into
64 plus hours of doing this so it’s
going to be a it’s going to be a long
day
all right so I’ll be signing off here
the guys are going to start picking up
on the live stream uh here just
momentarily they’re going to be uh
taking you for they’ll be on a Gator in
front of the uh the running crew so
they’ll be able to capture all that so
I’ll be signing off here shortly so
you’ll want to switch over to the other
live stream uh with the uh with the
Buddy
runs we’ll have you guys hopping across
channels all day today but uh we’ll keep
it live for you the whole time thanks
for tuning in on the
uh the start in the opening ceremony um
and I’ll be back on a little bit later
uh when they get back to this side of
the post uh for the malvesti field event
he said if you do it I’ll do
it I would say
so I’ll tell you a little bit about
since some of you are still on I’ll tell
you a little bit about what goes on here
um these guys are going to
burn in the neighborhood of 30 to 35,000
calories they’ll get about four hours of
sleep combined over the next 4 days
three four days they probably didn’t
sleep very well last night so they’re
extremely exhausted already and they
haven’t even
started
um they’ll be
doing over 60
miles uh out
here half of it with over 50 lbs on
their back in Boots and uniform
obviously they’ll be fir in
are handling at least 13 separate
different weapon
systems everything between handgun rifle
long gun machine gun high explosive and
mortar weapon systems both mounted and
dismounted they’ll be tested on
Marksmanship weapons assembly complete
knowledge of the weapon
systems be doing 18 separate tactical
task out here over the next three days
they’ll do everything from a tactical
workout of the day to a zipline across
the infamous chattah huchi
River they’ll do a kayak that I’m sure
will be longer than they
want four helicopter
missions a medical hoist thrown in for
for a little test all of it within 64
hours
they even have a live stream on here
with a or I’m sorry a live feed with all
the competitors uh locations you just
saw the billboard moving there they’ll
keep all the uh all the
teams hello ma’am how are
you good
thanks oh I’ve changed
all right so it’s winding down here um
everybody’s going to be back through
probably in about an hour is what we’re
guessing um again if you guys want shift
over to the uh shift over to the the
live stream feed on the Buddy run they
they’ve got it going live right now um
Jay and Kobe are working that and then
they’ll be back here for malvesti field
so I’m going to sign out here um that’ll
conclude the uh the opening
ceremonies um and again I’ll pick back
up probably in about an hour and change
uh on the uh the malvesti field event
hope
