it’s day 123 of our ultimate Journey
around the
world today we’re visiting the city of
kagoshima and one of the most active
volcanoes in the
world we sailed overnight from Nagasaki
for an early morning
arrival good morning we’re in Kashima
Japan and here’s the map it tells you
everything on how to do it you get this
at the information desk right as you get
off in the port super easy we’re going
to do everything today by tram and
fairy uh I plan this like a year ago
every stop every port detailed on
exactly what we’re going to do and how
we’re going to do it so sometimes we’re
winging it but most of the time it’s
pre-planned and I have exact directions
on how to use the tram where to get get
it how far to walk
Etc they had a money exchange also in
the port we were able to get money right
there in a money exchange machine so
we’re all equipped with our chains for
our
tram there a rubber track so you can run
really nice it’s
huge we took the tram and we’re heading
to the fery terminal to visit the
sakurajima
volcano there used to be an Island
located in the middle of the kagoshima
bay but the 1914 eruption connected it
to the neon on the opposite side of the
bay they make it really easy to pay to
get on you just give them the chain and
that’s it getting on and make sure that
you don’t take more than a 1,000 bank
note they don’t give you change in the
machines or bigger bigger but most of
the change works great we’re getting on
the ferry to go over to the
island and I think they run pretty often
because one left and there was another
one in in the queue so absolutely no
waiting I almost get a feeling that it’s
like a commuter feels like a commuter
Fairy doesn’t it like maybe people work
over there or work here and live over
there it’s a big fairy they’re set up to
handle a lot of people three three
levels want to get something to
drink looks like there’s ice coffee
1,000 what’s what is what is the
exchange rate 150 to 1 so 1,000 is going
to be
[Music]
to about6 $6 or something $6
a, like this this is about doll or less
approximately oh it’s instant
instantaneous so what do you want okay I
selected this one I’m not sure what it
is it kind of looks like ICD and it’s
140 which is like about a little bit
less than a dollar about 90
we’ll see what
happens
this comes down immediately so this is
an active volcano they say there’s
always smoke coming out of it uh I think
that is smoke that’s coming out you can
see to the
right it’s not a cloud you can tell it’s
coming out of the mountain
actually um and the fairies just go
straight across it’s only 15minute ride
over they’re cute fairies
isarco are you having
fun
no
okay we took this tourist view bus up to
the observation
area you get in the back and you as you
get out you pay as you get off so you
just pay as you get off and the public
transport is super easy even the fairies
you they want you to pay when you get
off which is totally different than what
you were used to generally you pay
before you get on and show a ticket no
they’re taking cash on the way
out well being the offseason there’s not
a lot going on over here
actually so this is the island view it’s
a bus and it goes around the island
takes an hour and you can get off at
various stops and he announces it and we
decided to get off at this stop I think
he said every hour he’s here and this is
the actual Viewpoint as to see the
volcano uh and it’s eruption and
everything else eat it that up so we can
catch it
camera anyway they have an observatory
area right
here the volcano is highly active with
frequent minor eruptions that often
sprinkle the city with volcanic
ash the residents use on UMAS to Shield
themselves from the ash rather than
rain the volcano is contributing to the
Region’s fertile soil which supports
agriculture such as sweet potatoes and
radishes in the summer months the
volcano is a major tourist attraction
there are many hiking trails and Hot
Spring Resorts
[Music]
that’s what we’re looking at right there
[Music]
so we’re waiting for the tram number one
to take get back to an area where we’re
going to have lunch maybe and it’s kind
of a popular downtown yes it’s a popular
downtown
area I I love the seats on this one it’s
like a it’s like a a
couch sofa and they’re soft like a sofa
too pmon con area there a famous
shopping Street
area right there it say 10
monom I can see why they it’s all
undercover it’s kind of
nice
yeah it’s like an outdoor Market but
it’s it has a roof over
it well that’s the walking Street too it
goes down oh
what are they making
cookies some kind of cookie
no looks
like I have no idea it looks like meat
yeah
I
yeah the locals are buying
it I don’t know what it is
wow what is it work in life C you can
lay there maybe this one of those pre
WiFi what is
this club wow that’s
different n let’s I’m sure we can find
something better
stretch oh yeah look at they’re
stretching
you let’s go on one of the side streets
yeah yeah right
there this one right
here I think they’re all closed right
now
it’s good beer I don’t know what kind it
is a aand dra
beer anyway it’s
Japanese
taxi after the shopping uh area we had a
beer and shrimp two shrimp we ordered a
shrimp and we got two shrimp we expected
the plat it was like $10 $10 for two
shrimp it was $5 of shrimp we couldn’t
believe it anyway after two beers and
two shrimp we got on the taxi and the
tax’s taking us back to the port it’s a
lot faster and it was a long walk
actually 2 miles from the port to the
tram station so we’re getting a taxi
back we were outside and we pled a taxi
like instantly not even 30 seconds and
there was a
taxi and uh it’s pretty quick there
really not any traffic just per
se kushima was fun I mean we’re only
here for a few hours we spend our day
mostly trying to get over there and we
saw the volcano volcano and then we came
back we went through the walking street
that everybody recommended seeing and
we’re heading back to the ship so yeah
no it’s it’s it’s fun we liked
it I mean you can only do so much in a
few hours so that’s it is what it
is it’s not a tourist town there’s not a
lot it’s a regular Japanese
town like everything is so clean and
yeah I know everything is
spotless bathrooms wow you can eat gosh
yeah everything like the buses the caps
look look at look at this C the GL the
GL the windows are spotless we know
because we do video through the windows
but like the windows on everything is
completely
[Music]
spotless and our next video we’re
visiting our most anticipated City the
heart of Japan Tokyo
