#japan #yokohama #tokyo #chinatown

all right this is chinat
toown in Yahama
Japan and it’s actually the
largest China Town in
Japan and it’s located in central yukama
it’s about
I would say 45 minute train ride from
Tokyo and this is my first time here so
I don’t know what I’m going to come
across but I do see two ways to go this
way and that way so we will go toward
the crowd and
see what’s going
on
there since it’s the largest China toown
in Japan I would
imagine I will see a bunch of uh
interesting stuff along the
way I think think he was established in
1859 and it’s very close to the port of
Yokohama it’s about uh 5 minute walk the
the
port and uh and that was one of the
first ports in Japan that was open to
the
foreign uh
trade so that’s why that’s how the
Chinese
Traders established the this town back
then and before I started filming this
uh video I I went to a coffee
shop there actually a bunch of coffee
shops and the
prices vary
significantly one coffee shop sells
coffee for 900 Yen and another one sell
it for 300 y so it’s a big difference
for the same type of coffee I’m not sure
why one is
expensive and the other one is cheap
even though it’s same
coffee so so I noticed a pattern not
only for coffee also for
meals for meals
uh but I did notice so far is when I see
a menu in English if they have if they
offer English menu I noticed that the uh
the prices are a little bit inflated
like for example this one I see the
price is 100 1,980
yen and I am staying in
yukama uh a place called Shin yukama
it’s a financial
district and a bunch of local
restaurants and the prices are way way
getting used
lower than what I see in the tourist uh
destination such as this one for example
I can get a nice meal delicious meal for
1,000 yen and that
includes that includes uh drink and
everything but for the same type of meal
if I want to go get it here minimum will
be 2,000 Yen like for example I’m going
to show you I’m going to show you the
price here
2,900 Yen right
here you
see right
there so the place that I’m staying at
is full of local restaurants so so now I
learned the game good evening as far as
uh finding a place to eat I try to
avoid uh restaurants
uh that are geared toward the
tourists
and every time I see a menu only in
Japanese that’s a good sign so what I do
I just open uh Google I just open Google
Translate app to translate the menu for
me and that’s how I communicate with the
uh with the restaurant staff they don’t
have to speak English I have a Google
translate and they do well by the way I
mean uh sometimes they have their own
app on their phone and they pull it up
and they try to explain the menu for me
which is uh very nice of
them there is
another colorful uh
gate the one that I went through when I
started filming that is actually the
main
one and this is the second
one so there are four colorful gates at
the
entrances and I think there is
also another gate inside the town
actually five gates inside the town and
four gates at the entrances and that is
the second one at the
entrance and I am looking I’m actually
looking for a beautiful Temple somewhere
here is located somewhere here very um
famous
temple so maybe if I
walk
back so it’s a nice good opportunity to
capture the street from the other side
offering a another
view so if you’re visiting Japan this
beautiful
country I can tell you that
uh especially if you
are coming from the US if if if US
dollar is your country
currency and you are visiting um Japan
around this time I mean in
2024 I’m recording this video right
now in
April April
11 and the exchange rate $1 is about
151
Yen so the US dollar is very
strong and this is the best time
to to come here and stretch your US
dollar
um I don’t remember it was that strong
when I was here last time in Japan about
a year and a half ago so the the the US
dollar got stronger since then and
that’s why when I convert yen to US
Dollars I mean everything like as far as
hotels restaurants and
um they’re very um
affordable so let’s go now find out
where that um
where that um
Temple I think it’s somewhere
here I’m
not using uh my
uh my
phone because I’m a little bit
paranoid when I walk in such a crowded
area so many people I try not to hold um
valuable
stuff I keep my stuff in inside my
pocket and that includes the phone I
don’t like to carry a phone when I am
walking in a very very crowded
area cuz you never
know somebody can grab your
phone and if you lose the
phone it’s a
disaster imagine you lose a a phone and
nowadays
um every time you do something as far as
Bings they ask they send you a text
message they call it multiactor
authentication that’s common U term in
the United States so imagine you lose
your phone so you cut
off um you cannot uh access your Banks
every time you do
something as far as banking they have to
verify it’s you but if you don’t have
the phone they cannot send you a text to
send you the code and that’s why
actually a phone is very very very
something that you need to uh to
protect treat it like uh gold you know
and here is the uh here is the temple
that I’m trying to
visit right
here I’m not sure if there is
a a
fee to uh to go inside or
not but it doesn’t look that big though
it’s very
small so there is no need probably to go
inside if I can capture
uh if I can capture a footage nice
footage from
here but I don’t see any sign that says
no photos some most temples they don’t
allow
videos but they let you know if
they let you know if they don’t uh allow
it but
uh but you don’t have to worry about
Pick Pockets issues in uh in Japan it’s
very safe it’s a safe
country but I am a little bit paranoid
regardless even if it’s a safe
country you do need to worry about it
about that issue when you visit uh
Western
Europe such as uh France and UK
and
Portugal Spain Italy you know those
places you know you have to pay
attention to your
belongings because of because of the pck
pocket
issue but here in Japan it’s very
safe
so other than the
temple what else uh the temple and two
major
streets in this
town that I can walk
down and explore I don’t think there is
other things to
uh to explore but uh but since I am
already in the in the area I said okay
let’s let’s keep
filming
and there is a beautiful
park
nearby along the the coast actually um
close to the
port and this is in the heart of yukama
so if you are let’s go this
way if you are staying in yukama in the
center of
ukama the the the prices will be a
little bit uh a little bit uh expensive
the place that I am uh staying at is a
little bit expensive too because it’s in
the financial
district of of
Yokohama so pretty much everything is
uh is uh is within walking distance as
far as restaurants and uh grocery stores
and
everything I was planning to stay in
Airbnb accommodations but uh I could not
find
any because it’s not a good idea to stay
two weeks at the
hotel anything above more than one week
is better to stay in the Airbnb because
you get um you get microwave you get um
kitchen kitchen facility kitchen stuff
laundry but if you’re staying 5 days I
mean 3 days days that’s U you stay in a
in a hotel but I could not find any
Airbnb uh
apartment I’m not sure why maybe because
I
uh I planned this trip a little bit
late my original plan actually to go to
uh
well to go to another country but I will
go there actually after Japan and the
reason I
switched I said okay let’s go to Japan
first because of the cherry
blossom season right now April I said I
will go to Japan
first and then
um and then I will go to the nearby uh
country that you will find out you will
find out
later
and the weather today is nothing short
of
exceptional and what I like about Japan
is they give you um 3 month uh Visa free
if you are from the United States or
Canada or some countries uh they uh you
get a visa on arrival 3 months which is
very very
generous nice of
them 3 months is uh more than enough to
explo to to explore the
U the
country you see there is some kind of uh
a gate up up ahead or a pavilion
beautiful Pavilion uh up
there so it’s really nice uh to have uh
3 months uh stay but I’m not staying for
3 months I’m staying actually for two
and a half
months here that’s the
plan right now is April and I’m trying
to leave by mid June and I want to
leave by mid June because of the rain
season starts in June so doesn’t make
sense to stay in June and July because
that’s the heavy heavy rain when the
heavy rain
starts so if you do plan if you’re
watching this video and you like Japan
and you want to visit Japan I will tell
you I’ll give you this tip visit Japan
in
November or
late to Mid April if you want to catch
the uh the cherry
blossom mid to uh mid March to late
April but for some reason this this year
the cherry blossom is a little bit
late it usually starts in mid-march but
for some reason um it’s late so and I’m
lucky I arrived in uh
Japan in the beginning of
April look at
that not sure
what
maybe I should sit there and uh take a
break yeah the uh the cherry blossom um
this this time arrived in
April I guess it was uh waiting for me
until I
arrive and uh and for those people who
visited March um visited in March they
got so disappointed because they left
they usually come here visit one week 10
days and then they leave and and they
left without seeing uh the cherry
blossom uh
trees it’s very unusual to for the
cherry blossom season to start that
late but I captured a lot of uh a lot of
it I went to a beautiful garden
yesterday and
uh and I captured very very nice footage
and also um look at that gate see I can
tell now I counted four Gates now four
colorful Gates and I think that is the
fourth one up
there so I’m going to keep walking there
and then I’m going to wrap up the the
video there and then there are also five
colorful Gates like that one within the
city within the
town and I
think this is
another
Temple I guess maybe that is the main
one the main
Temple I forgot what they call
it I have a the blist on my phone but I
don’t want to pull up my my phone it’s
in my pocket and also so I’m running out
of uh battery I need to keep it for my
uh to use it to use Google Maps when I
get back to the
hotel
yeah I have to figure out what the rules
are I need to be mindful of their of the
rules and also I need to find out if I
am even allowed to film or
not
see yeah when I see people carrying a
phone and they take photos that
means that means it’s
allowed cuz I don’t want to be the only
one who’s taking photos it looks
weird yeah it’s
beautiful it’s really
beautiful but
uh you know the camera that I am holding
is very very small GoPro camera are very
small so most people don’t even know
that I am carrying a camera I’m serious
when I
walk and I talk people think that I am
talking either to myself or to a phone
um maybe they’re saying maybe he’s
talking on a phone they don’t know that
I am holding a
camera unless um if they pay attention
to if they lower their head to my chest
then they will they will they will see
the camera because I keep I try to keep
the camera a little bit at lower
elevation lower level below my uh below
my
head and that’s the reason why people
don’t stare at
me but if you do carry a camera uh
Advanced camera equipment with the
tripod or with the handle it it grabs
the attention of people so you will see
that people will not feel comfortable a
little bit because people don’t like to
be on
camera don’t like to get on
camera and I have to be careful
sometimes people uh I can feel when
there is when somebody is not
comfortable when they see a
camera and uh here is the end of the
uh I think if I I I still have I still
have
energy I’ll try to go to the port there
is a port here with a beautiful Park I’m
going to find my way there because the
sun is still
up so let’s
go see I found my way to this beautiful
Park that I don’t know the name but it’s
it’s just one block away from
Chinatown
and I do remember seeing
it on
um Google images as far as uh when I was
uh doing my research uh this
morning to find out what places I need
to visit and this one pops
up but I did not know that it’s actually
that
uh uh close to uh to
Chinatown so it’s the plan was not to
come uh visit this
area but I found out about it because I
saw a big
crowd group of people going that way and
I say what’s going on there and that’s
when I found out that yeah the park a
famous Park is actually
there
so I guess I’m going to have
to wrap up the
video
here and there will be a lot of uh other
videos in uh in
Japan I am actually planning to visit uh
Mount um Mount Fuji
area very soon but I am waiting for the
uh for the for the weather to clear to
clear up because Mount Fuji is better to
go when the when the sky is very clear
to get a nice view of the uh of the
mountain so that will be uh next
week
