宇和島運輸フェリー れいめい丸 特等 乗船記 ◆ 別府ー八幡浜 2時間45分 ◆ ぜいたく船旅
REIMEIMARU cruise from Oita to Ehime, enjoy luxurious suite!
Enjoy a luxurious cruise aboard the top class/special cabin of the Uwajima Unyu Ferry “Reimeimaru”.
I boarded the latest ship, which was launched for the first time in the Reiwa era on the route connecting Beppu and Yawatahama.
The three-hour voyage was over in an instant when I was inside the ship with a modern Japanese atmosphere and in the spacious and comfortable special cabin.
Please enjoy the beautiful scenery seen from the boat.
I disembarked from Sunflower’s daytime special cruise early in the morning and arrived at the Uwajima Transportation Ferry Terminal next door. Beppu and Yawatahama are connected 24 hours a day, with six round trips a day. As with the Usuki platform I used before, there are slot machines lined up in the waiting room.
It was just after 5am, and the tour conductor was getting ready to see if there was a tour available. The route map on the wall shows the prosperity of ships in the past. Launching in 2022, it is 121.4 meters long, carries 586 passengers, and can carry 160 passenger cars.
It has a distinctive appearance with a straight chimney that is said to be a reproduction of the old days of cargo and passenger ships. I was surprised to see so many people fishing in the darkness on the quay opposite the Uwajima Transportation Ferry Terminal.
The sleek hull floating in the dark sea is impressive. Due to the structure of the terminal, you cannot see the ship you are about to board from from the waiting room. Currently, only one destination is displayed: Yawatahama.
Coincidentally, the ship “Etopirika” bound for the Northern Territories was anchored at Beppu Port on that day. Apparently they were giving a tour of the ship during the day. It was past 6 o’clock, and boarding began with a refreshing announcement announcement that was completely different from the atmosphere of the building.
The sky is gradually getting brighter. There is a covered walkway all the way to the side of the ship, so you won’t get too wet even in the rain. The Uwajima Transport Ferry boat is not very tall, but it is impressive when you see it up close.
Go up the stairs on the gangway next to it. On the other side of the turret was what appeared to be a wheelchair lift. The area where you board is part of the vehicle deck, and if you go to the front you will find a passenger room.
The ship’s guest rooms are on two floors, the second and third floors, and when you enter the ship, you are greeted by a magnificent atrium. This time, we will be using the top class special room, which is the only room on the ship.
We were guided by a sailor to the section at the front of the third floor where the superior cabins were grouped together. The first room on the right is the special room. So let’s start the room tour. When you open the door, you’ll be greeted by a bright room with hardwood floors.
Please take off your shoes when entering the room. The interior layout is almost the same as the Akebonomaru, which I sailed in the past, with a sofa space near the entrance and a bed space at the back. Where there are no windows, there are closets and plumbing.
The first thing you see when you enter the room is the large gray upholstered sofa, which is L-shaped and quite long from front to back along the horizontal window. There is a desk space in front of the sofa. Lattice screens are used here and there, and the lighting is stylish.
The interior of the ship has a modern Japanese atmosphere, with colors often seen in new luxury inns. There is one king-sized bed in the front bed space. If you raise the front screen, you can enjoy the view while lying down. There are light switches and various outlets next to the bed.
Although the king size bed is still rare on ships, there are two single size beds connected under the sheets. There was a pad in the center so that you wouldn’t be able to see the seam when you were sleeping. There is a raised wooden ceiling above the bed.
The Akebonomaru’s special cabin had a large number of vertically long windows, but the main ship’s windows are horizontally long. When it gets a little brighter, try raising the screen. Wall-mounted TVs are large and have narrow edges, with indirect lighting at the top and bottom.
The desk is wide and there are plenty of outlets, so you can get some work done here. An air purifier was placed at my feet. This is the first time I’ve ever seen such a large area of flooring in a ship’s cabin, where many carpets and tatami mats are used.
Special rooms have their own restrooms. The color scheme in the rooms continues to be the same, and the facilities are modern. The wash basin is also lit up, and the shadows on the wall stand out, making it look very impressive.
If you’re flying overnight, you’ll want to spread out the store around the sink, but this wide area should be enough. Next is the closet. When I opened the double doors, there were two hanger rails attached to the front and back.
It’s not very deep, but it’s just big enough to hang the jackets of four people. There is a familiar escape route map on the entrance door. It’s not a long voyage, but I want to relax as much as I can.
I was impressed when I looked inside the room, but it was almost time for departure. Recently, the Uwajima Transport Ferry has been in service three times in a row, named after the dawn, and the view of the dawn from Reimeimaru is also beautiful.
Smoke came out of the chimney as if the engine was running. Environmental issues aside, the black smoke looks great with this chimney shape, which is reminiscent of an old ship. At 6:25 on time, all the ropes were untied and the ship departed Beppu Port.
The journey from Beppu to Yawatahama is approximately 89km and takes 2 hours and 45 minutes. On the Sunflower Murasaki I was on recently, many passengers were out on the deck looking at the sky.
The sky has become much brighter, and since we are heading east, the sun should be rising in front of us. The ship sailed out of the port, looking out at the steamy streets of Beppu and the sunflowers you don’t usually see in the distance.
We went out to the outside deck to watch the ship depart, so let’s just walk around the ship. Behind the wheelhouse on the fourth floor is a large deck with benches and tables. The distinctive chimney can also be seen clearly from here.
Most of the interior of the ship is basically Japanese-style rooms with tatami flooring, and everywhere you look, it feels like an inn. There is an information desk and shop space on the lower and second floors, but they were closed on this flight.
There is also a table set where you can eat and a TV corner, making it feel like a small lobby lounge. Behind the TV are crane games and slots. Furthermore, there is a vending machine in the back, so you can make basic purchases even if the store is closed.
The products in the shop seem to be mainly souvenirs. The lobby had a luxurious atmosphere. The central atrium has many vertical lines. This is a stately stairwell with a calming color scheme including black. The most conspicuous item, the shiny Uwajima Transport logo, was woven from string.
The ship’s guide map, which tends to be mostly white, is also dark in color, which gave it a new feel. Recently, there has been an increase in the number of customers who find it difficult to sit on tatami mats, so there are four seating areas on board.
This is also a warm space with lots of wood grain. There are priority sofa seats in front of the elevator, so everyone can enjoy the cruise. I returned to my room and it was completely bright outside, so I raised the roll screen.
There are two wide windows in a low position, providing a good view. The sun peeks out from behind the clouds and the day begins. The combination of the ocean and the sunrise is something that cleanses your soul no matter how many times you see it.
It’s such a luxury to be able to see this view while lying in bed. On my way from Kobe to Oita, I passed by Sunflower Apartment. Is it breakfast time over there now? I’m a greedy person, and I’d rather see the sunrise in person than through a window.
I decided to wash my mind for a while on the outside deck. It was just before 8 o’clock, and the ship was approaching the Toyo Strait, the narrowest part of the Bungo Channel. While avoiding many fishing boats, I passed the Akatsuki Maru bound for Beppu in the distance.
Kyushu and Shikoku are actually less than 20km apart, and there are ferries that run the shortest distance. The sky is clear and clear, and it’s a very pleasant morning. After passing through the strait, we will head towards Yawatahama along the Sadamisaki Peninsula. Cape Sadamisaki Peninsula is located in the westernmost part of Shikoku.
It is approximately 40km long and is said to be the longest and narrowest peninsula in Japan. On the other side of the peninsula is the Seto Inland Sea, and on this side is the Uwa Sea.
The warm sunlight and the rocking of the boat are so soothing that when you lie down on the bed and close your eyes, you feel like you’ve ascended to heaven.
Since I had been active since early morning, my sleepiness peaked around this time, and I found myself going back and forth between dreams and reality. When you pass the “Orange Shikoku” of the 94 Orange Ferry headed for Usuki, you will be just before entering Yawatahama Port.
The Usuki route is operated by two companies, Uwajima Transport Ferry and 94 Orange Ferry, and the Beppu route is operated by one company, Uwajima Transport Ferry, and both operate 24 hours a day.
As the terraced fields spread out on the slopes of the mountain and the city of Yawatahama came into view, the sailors came forward to prepare for entering the port. Since it’s only a short time, I would like to stay on board for as long as possible, but I will leave the cabin.
I was able to relax in a luxurious room reminiscent of a modern inn. This time it was closed and I could only take a peek, but there is also a lounge for upper class passengers next to this room.
The entrance to Yawatahama Port, the wharf, and the terminal building have all been renovated, and it’s completely different from when I came two years ago. The Akebono Maru, which we boarded last time, is anchored opposite the ship.
The “Ehime”, which was replaced when this ship entered service, is currently being used as the “Kogane Maru” by Sado Kisen in Niigata. In order to lower the car through the hatch at the bow, proceed at the slowest possible speed.
When it arrived at the designated position, it was moved sideways and the rope was hung. I like Yawatahama Port because it’s very quiet and it feels like time passes slowly. The ship stopped exactly on time at 9:10am. We’ve been active since early morning, so it feels like noon already, but it’s still morning.
Following the group tour guests, we disembark from the gangway and walk along the shiny passageway along the ship. The three hours went by so quickly that I was able to refresh my mind. Did you enjoy your cruise on the latest Reiwa ferry?
The shiny ferry terminal has a restaurant, cafe, and a hall that can be used as a shelter in case of an emergency, and you can watch the ships arriving and departing from the balcony on the upper floor. After this, we walked to Yawatahama Station and took the train to Matsuyama.
That’s all for this cruise, I hope to see you on another boat next time. The Luxury Cruise Channel introduces slightly luxurious trips aboard various ships. Please check out our other cruises on the channel page. I would be very happy and encouraged if I received evaluations and comments.
Thank you very much for watching until the end.
