Hi everyone, thank you for watching pyu-pyu channel okinawa trip part two. Now let’s get started! This is Makishi public market in Naha. It started as a black market right after the war and then later it became public market and catered to local Okinawan for fresh produce and fresh fish.
What’s nice about it is you can buy fresh fish. (it’s like tongue twister from Dr. Seuss) You can buy fresh fish and have them cook it upstairs on the second floor. Now, in recent years, it’s more of a tourist attraction area and a little bit pricey so it’s mostly
Tourist going there. I heard that they renewed building last year so I wanted to come check it out. It’s just like that Dr. Suess book “One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish. Blue Fish here is called Irabucya and it’s pretty popular as Sashimi in Okinawa. Its
Japanese name is Aobudai and in English it’s called parrot fish. So my dad and I bought two different kinds of fish, one green shellfish, and two other giant clams. Now they’re going to cook half of each into sashimi and rest they’re going to fry in garlic butter sauce.
My dad and I ate everything we ordered here so we were very full by the time we left. Everything was about 13,000 Yen so definitely it’s tourist price but if you’re in Okinawa and you want different food experience you should definitely go check this place out. Another
Good place to eat is Megumi inside San-A Parco city. It’s a Sushi go-round but it’s a gourmet kind of sushi go-round and if you’re lucky you might be able to see the tuna filleting event. Every February lot of Japanese baseball team come to Okinawa for spring training camp due to
Okinawa’s warm climate. I went to go see Hanshin Tigers who were last year’s Japan Series Champion. After we checked out Hanshin Tigers, we stopped to go see this Majestic 300 years old banyan tree.
So it’s almost at the end of my trip and I realized I haven’t even gone to the beach yet. So I went to Hayubama in Onna Village. It was windy and cloudy that day so I really didn’t see any
Little fishes but there was a sign that says watch out for Habu. Habu is a poisonous Okinawan snake. I hope you enjoyed my two weeks trips to Okinawa. Next episode I’ll be back in Virginia and doing clay shooting. See you next time!
