Another look at a yummy and affordable Japanese lunch box. last week I ate “katsudon” カツ丼, which is breaded porkcutlet served with sweet eggs and onion over a bed of rice. It was pretty delicious. I picked it up at my local supermarket in Kobe, Japan.

  1. That sure made me seriously hungry! I really miss the bento in Japan, especially the ekiben. Ah, good times!

  2. the salmon one sounds DANGEROUS!!! if I've learned anything, is that these "pre-made" sandwiches/meals are not always fresh fresh (regardless of country), and stuff like fish/chicken/turkey are like top 3 in the "Better be fresh of it will f**k you up!" category!

  3. I think Katsudon was the first real Japanese food I tried when I first got here, and it was an interesting texture at first, but now I absolutely love it, aside from the onions(I'm not an onion person).

    Looked very tasty! 🙂

  4. Well Kevin, you did make me hungry. But no problem, we've got a TON of lasagne from the other day when my wife and daughters made some. Also, it is lunchtime right now.

  5. 480 ¥ is about 41 SEK (Swedish kroner)
    398 ¥ is about 32 SEK
That is a good price for those bento boxes and it is probably so much better than the "boxed" food you can get here in Sweden.
I am so hungry now 😛

  6. I would eat all of it except the raw fish and the pork.

I would have the fish fried or baked and willing to pay extra.

  7. I love Katsudon, I made a comment on it on your video what's your favorite japanese food and you can what order food in japanese (4 ban), the video that I just loaded up and I had Katsudon.

  8. European can not understand RICE is main dish. So every cooked dish must be with
RICE eating together. Moreover DON dish is topping dish, So you must eat dish with
rice. And mixing in mouth together. This Guy is bebinner of Japanese food eater.

  9. I'm Japanese. I often eat many of foods you're introducing in your videos, but, every time I watch your videos, I feel like eating them even though I'm not so hungry.

  11. @kaisermuto The reason why he didnt eat it with rice is because hes holding the camera on the other hand. Its pretty hard to pick up all together with one hand while holding a camera on the other.

  12. whats the difference between katsudon and tonkatsu? are they the same? or is one deep fried chicken?

  13. There is a difference. Katsudon is a meal as you see in this video. The "don" part means "bowl". Tonkatsu is just the pork cutlet without the rice, onion, eggs, etc. So, one can say that a katsudon is made with a tonkatsu. The meat is pork for both, not chiken. "Ton" means "hog" and "katsu" means "cutlet"..
