I have a new piece of kit here I want to talk about I got this lens it’s the Lao a 12 millimeter f 2.8 zero distortion lens from wah wah slash Venus optics it’s an ultra wide-angle lens it’s opposed to a very little distortion so I

Have it mounted on the sony a7s 2 camera with an adapter because they couldn’t get me the official email version of the flint a nikon to e adapter it’s the fotodiox adapter i think yeah then it’s on the sony a7s 2 camera which is then mounted on the giant crane 3 axis gimbal

Here’s a big question why the heck do you need a 12 millimeter lens on full frame because this lens is still crazy wide it’s almost 180 degree field of view it doesn’t quite look normal you know it’s not a lens you use for most applications but I was thinking maybe

This would be a good thing to put on the gimbal especially because supposedly it has very little distortion maybe if I put it on the gimbal and you know I cropped in the image of it in post will give me some flexibility to reframe my shots or to add some camera movement to

My shot we’ve gone out and I’ve done a few tests and I’m going to show you some of that footage [Laughter] [Applause] Oh So now I want to talk to you about why I have this gimbal on a monopod you can get high angles with just the gimbal I can get about that huh but if I want to take it further and I want to get shots

That are even higher then I put it on a monopod and send out the monopod and I can get a whole lot higher but I’m thinking is because I have a 12 millimeter lens on this monopod since the 12 millimeter exaggerated s’ the distance from the cameras in subject

Anyway it’s going to look like the cameras even higher than normal because of the exaggeration of the wide-angle lens so that might be kind of cool I’m walking off my pan and my tilt even if I move this around a whole bunch you’re not going to get any movement on the pan

Until taxis which help me people a steadier shot Catch it put it in a job kevinturtle to save for later you cannot trust it just come again to wait for I think there are still some shaken out especially when I was running faster so I’m going to use this monopod and tried to run like this

The effective steadier you know it sways and you cannot lose it that’s what you feel the whole gate up against your ear until he can’t be listen a lot a long

  1. Awesome video! How well does the lens handle flare? We shot on a 14mm Rokinon that was downright abysmal when a light source was in front of it. Your shot looking straight into the sun doesn't looked hazed or flared at all — was that your experience? That the lens can handle direct light?

  2. somebody please help!!!!!!! cant decide… 12mm or the 15mm?… ..15mm a more useable focal length?

  3. Great video great footage! I do real estate photography and video and my question is when using this Lens for real estate walkthroughs am I going to have a major issue since it’s all manual focus? Currently I use the Sony 16 to 35 f4 but a 12mm would be great not only for stills but also video if the focus isn’t an issue. Right now I’m using Sony’s auto focus when I come into a room and it works really well. If focusing isn’t an issue this lens is a no-brainer. Let me know your thoughts

  4. Nice shots. The outdoor into the barn was especially nice. Is there some kind of adjustment you can make to the auto ISO? Seems when I use it, the change is too dramatic

  5. What kind of lens parameters can be ensured by using a stabilizer in a manual lens?

  6. Hey bro can you pleaseeee link me the exact adapter? I have a big real estate shoot going down January 7th and I've now spent $120 on two different adapters and both are wrong. I ordered the Nikon F to Sony E adapter for like $19.99 on amazon it says " NIK-NEX" on it but the title says Nikon F/D to Sony E adapter and it doesn't fit my Venus Laowa 12mm lens what so ever.

    thanks so much in advance.

  7. From the looks of it I,d only use it for landscape shots. If shooting subjects only looks good when they are centered. So obviously only for a certain type of shot. Please do correct me if I am wrong.

  8. Thanks, great video, just purchased the 15mm f2 version for my Sony A series cameras. Just one thing, pleased don’t walk all over a farmers crop.

  9. Hello brandon, i have a question: I have the a6300 and the rokinon 12mm which is kind of heavy and with the zhiyun crane m the footage is very shaky and unusable, the thing is that i cant stabilize in post and was wondering if you can recommend any upper models of the zhiyun crane? or do you have to stabilize always in post??? thanks a lot.

  10. I know that this is a completely manual focus lens so how do you do video shooting with it? Do you just set it to infinity and most of the scene is in focus? I could not imagine running with a gimbal and trying to manually focus!
