On Day 8 of our trip to South Korea, we took a day trip to Namwon and enjoyed some delicious mudfish, both deep fried and in a stew.
00:18 Gwanghalluwon Garden – 3,000 Won ($2.56) – As soon as we arrived to Namwon, we first toured the Gwanghalluwon Garden, which is a historically important garden in South Korea, home to one of the most important love stories, which is similar to Romeo and Juliet.
2:41 Mudfish at Saejip Chueoyang (새집추어탕) – One of the most famous foods in Namwon is mudfish, which is fished from the river nearby. For lunch we went to a restaurant called Saejip Chueoyang (새집추어탕) to eat both fried mudfish and mudfish stew. Mudfish stew – 8,000 Won ($6.82), Fried mudfish – 20,000 Won ($17.06). I particularly enjoyed the fried mudfish, they were like little boney fried fish.
8:47 Chunhyang Theme Park – 3,000 Won ($2.56) and Namwon Aircraft & Space Observatory – 4,000 Won ($3.41) – After lunch we walked around the Chunhyang Theme Park and the Namwon Aircraft & Space Observatory.
10:57 Pork belly bbq – 11,900 Won ($10.15) per person – For dinner, Ying and I were back in Jeonju and we headed to a restaurant just down the road from where we were staying for pork belly bbq.

And these are actually entire whole mudfish the sauce looks wonderful good morning everyone its mark Wiens with migration ology comm in namwon south korea we’re going to be spending most of the day exploring num1 and go into some of the most famous attractions and eating some of the popular food here so
Stay tuned for a day in num1 and this is our first stop for the day num1 is known throughout South Korea as being the city of love because of the number of stories that have come from this city and one of the most famous stories is a Korean love story that is
Similar to Romeo and Juliet and this park is the park and memorial for that love story and there are a lot of children here today lots of happy kids and they are all here to learn about the love story too you the love story is about a lady named
Cunha and I’m not sure of all the details but I know it’s a very important love story in Korea and it’s taught at schools right behind me now is a shrine which is famous now for couples to come and make a wish for a long love lasting
Love kind of an entire historical park with a love story theme in the pond there are some giant giant fish so just got some fish food to feed them I’m not going to be eating this time but I’m gonna feed the fish that’s huge good right there oh good Monica
He’s asking for some clue they’re just opening their milk I can’t go home in goods now see ya where did it go here’s what’s the toss a coin into that vase once lighter no that was uh that was a total miss namwon is especially known for mudfish
And that is what I’m about to eat for lunch today the name of this restaurant is called sage jib – Oh Tom and this is a very very famous restaurant for serving mudfish in num1 they’ve just brought out all the different side dishes and I’m looking forward to trying this dish
Chicken yeah and these are actually entire whole mudfish i wasn’t expecting them to be so small but they’re just finger finger nuggets sized which have been battered and then deep-fried so you can this is an entire mud fish and then this is the sauce to dip it in the sauce
Looks wonderful with just floating sesame seeds and shallots I think in there or leeks that is fantastic there’s not just fish in there but there’s also I think some perilla leaf wrapped around and then it’s battered and deep-fried and that is hot and fresh and crispy the fish is
Maybe a little bit bitter and then the the perilla leaf gives it a like refreshing green herbal taste to it that’s fantastic and as you’re eating those little mud fish nuggets I think it’s all bones in all the entire fish so you can actually taste the little bones but the bones are
Really little and they are chewable so you can eat the whole thing that is a those are some wonderful mud fish fish fingers as I was finishing up that bite of mud fish nugget our mud fish our other main dish which is a mud fish kind of stew just arrived in the hot
Earthenware Bowl and it was bubbling so strongly that there was a little piece of mud fish skin that looked like it was like pulsating and just bubbling up or maybe that was a that was a leafy vegetable that was pulsating maybe that wasn’t fish skin my anyway this is the
Yeah it’s like a it’s like a porridge that is you can taste the mudfish in there you can taste the little tiny bones it has a nice garlicky flavor to it and also an oniony and what that green vegetable you can taste that green vegetable in there too very hot the
Vegetable has a little bit the leaves have a little bit of a spinach component to them they have that kind of a little bit of a slimy spinach component to this there are a couple of different things to season this dish with one of them is sliced up Chile’s which I cannot resist
Few of these diced up Chile’s in here and the other is ground situaion I’m going to give this a little bit of a of a – situation upper in here okay that should be mind numb that should be mouth numbing enough and then well immediately
As I stir that I can smell that that lemony fresh aroma of that ground up sich one pepper you can either you can either add the rice directly on or you can eat it separately whatever you feel like I might I might start this way and
Then move to to the amendment adding the rice in that bumps up the taste level a little bit with that situations it that like edge of lemony freshness with a little tingle on your tongue one of the side dishes is this acorn jelly we take a
Bite of this and I think I’ll dip it in that sauce the sauce is wonderful very sesame and lots of very sesame flavor you have to eat this one you have to eat this acorn jelly very fast otherwise it will fall apart in your chopsticks
What I like most about that is the sauce thank corn jelly doesn’t really have much flavor it’s very neutral tasting but then the sauce is really good you can taste all those sesame seeds and those leeks and all of that soy sauce and maybe a little bit of chili in there
As well I’m gonna add some of the rights to my stew it really is kind of like uh like a fish mud fish stew oh come to my table on they give you free refills I’m something uh so they just keep coming around filling up your bolt that is fantastic
And with nearly all Korean food that is hot especially forages and soups you really got to take your time eating them or you’ll end up with an entire Bert mouth the mudfish was not like a fishy tasting fish but it kind of took on the flavor
Of the different dishes that it was in that was really really good the reason mud fish is so popular in num1 is because of this river right here that runs right in the center of the city and somewhere further upstream is the source of the mud fish that we just ate for lunch
We are now walking around the chung-yong theme park time for a foot massage oh that hurts oh this hurts way more than it looks like it does it really hurts namwon city is considered to be one of the premier cities to live in in Korea because of the mountains the fresh air
The mix of culture we just took a walk little ways from the theme park to the num1 aircraft and space observatory this is the biggest telescope I’ve ever seen and this is I’m going to look at the Sun with us oh wow that’s amazing you can see the little you can see the
The Sun staring right into it with this really dark shade yes yeah and mostly just see orange the entire telescope is filled with orange almost orange with a few little specks in it num1 is especially known for its hiking because of the big national park
That is nearby we’re not going to do a serious hike but we are taking a little nature trail hike right now on this elevated wooden walkway through the forest that was a wonderful little nature hike we took and we are now going to head back to Jeonju
Oh yeah we are back in Jung Joo and Young and I were just walking around we just chose to eat at a restaurant that serves all you can eat bacon it’s not actually really cured bacon but it is I think pork belly with not only three
Layers but like four or five layers and this is an all you can eat pork restaurant oh they’re still attached one time okay oh thank you give me one more you can touch the bear okay okay and then just only to your step okay okay Oh
We’ve got some kimchi on the grill and also some marinated bean sprouts at all so I think this is squid and then the bacon is over here sizzling away oh yeah snap here are all really friendly and so he is helping us put everything on the
Girl and showing us how to do it additionally along with the raw pork they also have this smoked pork which I ordered and that looks like almost all meat that’s beautiful smoked Meisel on the hot platter as well Oh wonderful I’m going to slice it up into bite-sized
Pieces with the scissors oh yeah that is some pretty oily meat but it’s gonna taste good how thick that is hopefully man and this is a good meaty piece I’m waiting for the meat to finish grilling I’m going to try some of this kimchi which has been
Sitting here on the grill you can see that grill marks on the kimchi this is caramelized kimchi that is kimchi which has been caramelized in pork fat that it dripped down that is outrageously tasty I’m going to grab a leaf of lettuce and I got to go for that smoked meat first
Right in the middle there raw garlic and then some of that being taste alright I think that’s good is straight up big chunks of bacon wrapped in lettuce and then with that garlic touch that is greasy and very good another thing you can do is grab a
Piece of the meat put it into this onion sauce and then eat it with some of the marinated onions or a lot of the marinated onions I love that method as well that’s like a vinegary soy sauce and then the onions are really mild but really crisp
These chilies are a little bit spicy they kind of like they kind of go up your nose a little bit that is fatty meat but it’s so good because it starts to get really slow cooks on this griddle and the edges get really crispy oh yeah and there’s smoke
Coming in my face but a good so days because it gets so crispy right now I smell like a big piece of bacon from all that smoke just pouring onto me so they have this spray that you’re supposed to spray on yourself that I’ve seen other people spraying on themselves to take
Away the vacant smell and see if it works uh-huh yeah everyone comes outside yeah you gotta actually step outside so that you’re not spraying inside the restaurant let’s see how it’s done Oh smells like air freshener oh is that good I might have sprayed too much I definitely smell like soap
Now instead of bacon that was a good dinner good way to finish the day thank you all very much for watching today’s video please remember to give it a thumbs up if you enjoyed it and also leave a comment below and also make sure you subscribe for lots more food and
Travel videos and I will see you for the next food video and it’s another Park right in Nam one with a number of museums and there’s a waterfall fountain coming soon come on oh it just stopped right as I was about to say that right
As I said that come on okay the water fountain really ended right as I was speaking

Jeollabukdo Province has 14 cities and counties, Jeonju as the capital of 650,000 in population. Iksan is the second largest city in terms of population, 300.000. Gunsan is the 3rd one..with 280,000..and Jeongeup City, Namwon City, Gimje City..along with counties like Imsil, Jinan, Muju, Jangsu, Buan, Gochang, Sunchang, and Wanju.
When you come the next time to Province, try to see more like Gochang, Sunchang and Wanju….three of them are great to see as well. Hope to meet you in person, and I can take you there.~~
☺☺☺☺☺☺
I wish I was there Mark so that I could have helped you eat the delicious food
Mud fish???? The name alone. 😳😶
I want to try the mudfish, it looked so yummy
food outta sight
Love your videos I watch them every day you take me to different places and I enjoy watching you eat different foods from different places
The spraying made me laugh .. you a lucky man .. Ying is a smart one 😍
2:06 ??
I want the stew, i guess its one of sarangs dad fave food. I once watch in TROS sarang grandma made this mudfish stew and it loookssss soooooo amazing.
Ohhhhhh…A;; you can eat bacon…*drools( Wow! They'd be in trouble if I went there! LOL I'd be there for hours, maybe DAYS..!
; D
Love story is taught in schools? Now , I think I know why most of the K – dramas are romantic 😊
I'm living in Korea, and eager to visit Namwon to get some chuatang, i love it.
추어탕에 산초를 많이 넣으셨네요~ 산초 보다 들깨가루를 넣는게 더 맛있어요~~^^*
0:36 MIB Doorman doesn't exactly spell city of love. And your G-Man… Oh well, thank you JCIA for the tour o_o
Still, did the G-Man simply drove you to places, saying nothing, emotionless, unparticipative althewhile documenting and internally relishing of your struggles in your unworthy touristiness or is it just a weird impression I got looking from here, sitting on my chair far away?
Tania👍🏻🙍🏻♂️💖💖💖
I really enjoy watching your videos, Mark. But, after the raw garlic and onion, I bet you breath was horrendous, Mark. I hope Ying ate it also, so your could talk to each other! 🙂
That guy just grab his food for the fish 😆
좋타 ㅎ 내돈받고 가면되서 행복해 합니다
I have no idea what mudfish but they look good. Love fish.
