Shinjuku (新宿) is one of the 23 city wards of Tokyo, but the name commonly refers to just the large entertainment, business and shopping area around Shinjuku Station.

Shinjuku Station is the world’s busiest railway station, handling more than two million passengers every day. It is served by about a dozen railway and subway lines, including the JR Yamanote Line. Shinjuku is also one of Tokyo’s major stops for long-distance highway buses. A large bus terminal, named Busta Shinjuku, is conveniently located on top of the railway station.

Golden Gai is said to have started around 1950 when the black market that had arisen in front of Shinjuku Station moved and, in this new area, a number of eating and drinking establishments set up shop. Although Shinjuku has undergone considerable modernization since then, Golden Gai seems to have remained largely unchanged.

  5. If foreigners see this, they will think that Japan is full of izakaya (Japanese style pubs).

    There are only izakaya.

  6. Amazing! Everywhere there is no trash, no discarded half-eaten food, no beggars, sidewalk sleepers, homeless cart pushers, no tents!

  8. I wouldn’t call them “hidden” or “secrets”: they are all represented in most guide books and very popular with tourists.

  12. in these videos there is a notorious stalker named graham. he respects nothing, neither the opinions of others, nor their experiences, nor their tranquility! he imposes his experiences and he doesn't care what others think, he harasses everyone, he tells his life that no one gives a damn, he makes insulting remarks on those who have the right to leave negativity, especially after a bad experience in Japan. he is imbued with his person. he doesn't have to tell us that we should give up! it's not because he's a teacher that everyone should listen to him, that everyone should spend 50 years learning a language! he responds to the comments where we speak to others and he repeats words like a parrot! he bullies everyone! and when he tells everyone to go to japan he speaks like a cult leader! it would be really nice if someone reports this man out, because he is far from being a good person! he wastes his time and his energy telling stupid things to everyone. people says we shouildn't rely to other experiences but it'sd his fault if coming japan isn't worth it! he is blinded by the overpositivity which is important in japanese culture while masking the harshest truths!

  13. Omg i went to Japan on March 2023 in Tokyo & 43:03 looks familiar! Im surprised the big Street Fighters? sign (the big red anime sign) hasn’t changed for 2 years straight. I stayed at the shinjuku prince hotel so that big red sign was like the legend to get back.

  14. I love the way people just sit together eating and talking. It's such a wonderful scene. I truly love your videos 😍

  15. Захотілося передивитися, бо багато гарного і дивного для мене у житті нічного Токіо. Щасти.

  16. LIke most of these types of videos, you walk around too fast and do not take film of restaurants, shops etc so we can see what they sell etc.

  17. Excellent walk through, thanks. Covered all the streets I went around when I was in Tokyo, and also focused on my favourite bar in Japan. Bar Blazer in Golden Gai. Mami-San rules!
